HI Guys

I have a client that has been having regular Bio Gel overlays with me now for over 6 months and they have been a great success.

The only problem I have noticed is that her hyponychium has become overgrown up the length of her nail (on about 4 or 5 nails) and are alot more visable than normal.

I have suggested that she makes sure she uses her cuticle oil on the underside of her free edge more to see if this helps.

Does anybody know why this happens, if there is something that can be done to stop this happening and is this as a result of having the overlays on?

many thanks to you all.

Thanks Sandi

Do you think that having overlays on makes this extent more as she didnt have this extended hyponychium before she had overlays or enhancements on?

She does have lovely long nail beds and isnt concerned about this issue - just wondered if it has been made more exagerated. Like Geeg says it is a genetic thing so not overly worried just curious as she didnt have it before.

Dont think anybody on the previous thread mentioned that this changed with enhancements.

I have a similar thing. I'm glad this has been posted as i didnt know what was wrong with me LOL
What happened to me was on a couple of my fingernails i went overboard back when i didnt know better, picking at my nails from the under side and i actually poked too hard and made it bleed underneath. You'd think i would learn after i did it the first time, oh and on another i had an enhancement on and it got caught and pulled upward causing it to tear underneath as well. As a result it appears that when the skin grew back it's got a little carried away and it looks a little like my nail bed has got longer but under neath it looks like ive got a little bit more hyponicium than normal. Does that make sense???

i find this more on my elderly clients and those with long nail beds.

WOW!

Thanks for this topic!!! I thought it was just me!

I can't say I have lovely long nail beds, but I certainly have extended hyponychium on several of my nails. In fact, sometimes when I've been going to get my nails done the technician has nearly cut through them when trying to cut my nails down for the application of enhancements. It's usually only been when I yelp that they notice what's wrong! :irked:

Soooo... do you think a good sloshing of Solar Oil all over it might help this?

I've got this on 2 fingers since wearing enhancements. I put it down to not being able to get to my nails...I used to keep cleaning the free edge out with my teeth:eek: which made my nail bed shorter. Now I can't get to it properly, its reattached and overgrowing. HTHs

I have the same thing going on Blossy.
I have been wearing nailenhancements for a bit more then one month and i start to see that my hyponichium is firmly attached to my free edge which is ofcourse continuesly growing. I never had this before since i kept my nails short. I think that is has something to do with the fact that i use the tip of my nails more instead of my fingertips. This is just a weird theory of mine :green:...
When i had shorter nails and i had to grab, pull or push certain things i did it with the tip of my fingers causing the small contact area between my fingertip and my hyponichium to move more back and forth. Now these days i do a lot of things with my nailenhancements so i dont put much stress on the area between my fingertips and hyponichium. therefore i believe that it is firmer attached to my free edge since i don,t put much stress on it anymore.............:o hope this doesn,t sound silly but it,s one of the few thing i can come up with as a reason why....

I agree mieke. It doesn't sound stupid. It sounds more logical.

Thx Kurl.....:wink2:

Oh thank goodness it's not just me. I'M NOT A FREAK ANYMORE:green::wink2:
