I took break between May 08-feb 09

But before i did this business was very good i was much busier with more regulars coming every week for tans. Since then i have more treatments to offer. When i started back up Feb 09 i text all my old clients but only managed to entice one of them back and she doesn't come that often shes too busy.

If anything I'm getting allot of cancellations like today i had appointment for nails and a tan and she cancelled on me but i rang her 10 minutes before she was supposed to be here and she then told me and didn't bother to ring me

Do you think maybe it could be my area? If I'm honest I'm not in the best of areas where people will spend, they want everything for next to nothing

I dont expect big results i just expect some kind of result lol
The unfortunate thing about this business, is when clients find a great therapist/tech they stick with them, if the therapist/tech goes away for a year they will go and find another great tech/therapist and stick with them.

It's possile that after a year all your old clints you have contacted have found another great tech/therapist and not just someone you described in the title of this thread.

Hope it all works out for you and you can build your business back up. x

You are very right there! Infact i had a lady the other day she always went to the same nail technician for hollywood toes but her friend stopped the business due to maternity so she found me and come to me for hollywood toes and has re-booked which is a good thing i need more clients like this!

Thank you for your advice and nice comments

My opinion is that a lot of people do their job just for the money and not because they love it more than anything so why should this industry be different. I don't understand why you're so upset about it though.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way but I find that most of your threads focus far too much on other peoples business rather than your own. Forget the others, if they are not as interested in their job as you then so what?
If you are good then no lack of enthusiasm on other peoples part will harm your business. x

AGREE!

Trust me on this: those who are only in it for the $$$ will not be as successful as someone who has PASSION for their profession, no matter what the profession is.

And Hippy chick is an amazing holistic therapist and teacher. (just chucking a few more compliments your way ha ha.)

There isn't a lot of money in the beauty industry when you work in a salon.Therapists generally get a very low wage especially when you start,my daughter, newly qualified will make less an hour being a therapist than she makes at her part time job in a diy store ,my friends daughter makes more money life guarding than she does at her nail tech and beauty job eventhough she has been qualified 3 years.
This is what encourages people to go straight on from getting trained to the enormous task of running their own business in which more often than not they are doomed to failure because of lack of skills and experience in many different ways.
Just because someone has passed their courses doesn't make them any good at what they do ,some places would take on and pass a chimp to get their money. Its not good enough just to have a few passes on a bit of paper, to run a successful business its actually being able to do what you are offering....and im using the word you in the general sense and not directed at anyone:)

Thanks calla will do that

I have spent the whole day on every website on the internet putting myself about and making sure people know about me, putting adverts on any website i possibly can! So hope that will work

People do business with people, not with a faceless website. You need to do the face to face stuff as well as the internet stuff.

I wouldn't say that my area is more affluent than yours but I am busy. I dont know if it is because I specialise in just tanning and not beauty as well but I am getting lots of recommendations and business is brisk :green:

I lost my passion for nails over 4 years ago, not sure if I really had a passion in the first place really, it was just something that I could earn a bit of money doing when the children were younger and it fitted in with them. If I hadnt started tanning I would definately be out of the beauty industry by now but changing direction is the best thing I ever did!

Have you thought about being great at one thing instead of trying to do everything? When I think about all the courses and money I used to spend on my nail equipment, always needed liquid, powder, a new brush etc etc I never got in front... I just did a tanning party for 6 people in two hours... that would have been one set of nails for me previously! No competition!

When i first started for a good first year and half my business was only based on tanning and thats it. But over the time i have developed the passion for nails and feel ready to embark on nails and start a new venture. Tanning is just so easy i needed a challenge and now boy i realise nails is a challenge lol But im not willing to give in and quit no matter how hard it is or how many problems i face.

Dont get me wrong i love tanning a month back i did a tanning party and it was really fun and i loved it. But really tanning isnt a challenge anymore lol

no I dont find it challenging either but i'd rather go out for 2 hours and spray 6 people for four times the money of one set of nails! I can live without the challenge!

Hi love,

I certainly understand how you feel, but I keep in mind that those who don't have a passion for their chosen field often fail miserably. They tend to do a poor job, lose their clients and end up quitting.

Doesn't bother me that much because I don't find those ones to be competition.

You know what this makes me think of? The ladies in the nail bars who never smile, never talk, they look as though they HATE their job & can't wait for the day to be over. They're definitely in it to take the money and pay the bills and feed the family. And they're so busy!!!!
Kind of makes the mind boggle doesn't it?

Still, I agree with what cala said, gotta get the 'face to face' thing happening, do the leg work, get out there to let every one know "Here I Am!" :green:

I love my job and I love most of my clients I do the very best in treatments but I wouldn't do it if I were not being paid .
At the end of the day I only work for the money even though I love my job.

I must admit that I do find that people spend too much time on what colour they're going to paint their salon and the content of their business card......when they should be focusing on the business itself. of course it's important but one needs to get their priorities right.

I have never advertised and I rent a very basic little room above a hair salon. You have to walk through a very tired looking kitchen to get to the stairs that lead up to my room. The salon has an outside loo that needs a good re-furb. However, I'm turing clients away and I wax all day. AND, I built my own websites.

Just focus on being excellent at what you do.

By the way, I never ever do special offers. My prices are fair and that's that.

Violet Star: I'm training you next week aren't I? That's another thing I find. It's very easy to keep going on courses, rather than actually getting started with your business. xxx
