Hi, I was wondering if a professional will be able to help me?? I go to the hairdressers at least once a week to get my hair curled! My hairdresser suggested to me getting a perm!¡ I think of a perm like the 80's big and scary! Lol but he said you can get wavy perms? How will it look?? I don't understand him as I'm not in that industry!

Any help would be appreciated! Xxxxx

Hi, as I don't have a picture of you or know your hair its hard to tell but be cautious, unless you go for an all over big soft curl look you may find it too much! It really does depend on your hair and the curl effect you want but rarely is their a magic perm that will look like the curls you can acheive with styling. They do provide a lot of body and can help your tonged or ghd curls stay in place but think hard about it! If you want a 'baby' from dirty dancing look then its great for that???

Hi, i agree, perms are a totally different type of curl to that achieved by tongs, ghd's or curling wands and then you also need to think about how they look when they are growing out(you know that straight at the roots curly at the ends look......not a good one!). My advice would be to just stick to temporary curls!x

I think he said it as I have very straight hair and don't think he can be bothered curling it with tongs every Friday or sat! As much as I love dirty dancing and dreamt of being baby I think with hair like that I'd stay in the corner! Lol I just want soft waves really as the curls drop out really quickly when I use tongs!

Keep your straight hair! I have very straight hair & although i love some curls from time to time(my hair doesnt hold a curl very well either) i wouldnt perm it, you would probably end up missing your straight hair!!!x

I never have it straight though I'm forever curling it! I've been having problems with my hairdresser for a while so I dint think he knows what he's goin on about reading your comments xx

I used to work for a male boss and he was great but very cheeky and he would plan to talk a customer into a short hair style just so her weekly blowdry wouldn't take so long!!!!

NO....... dont get a perm!!!!! it wont look the same anyway.... buy yourself a set of conical curlers.... much cheaper than going to the hairdressers every week!!

if you trust him goahead

I had a set the other week (modeling for a friend training) not by choice lol...
This is serious dot cotton style, once she was assessed she made it more modern by flattening the top down and made the curls looser and it was like Cheryl Cole hair!

I'm not a hairdresser but I think perm and set are very similar? x

I can't curl it or blow dry it like the professionals so that's why I go to the hairdressers! Money isn't a problem so that's why I go but when I think about it I think that money could go on louboutins and bags lol So if it's not a perm I want what is it? Confused.com

Ask him to do you a set before hand on the same rollers that he would use? That way you would be able to see [kind of] what the results would be.

OR, get him to set it instead of tonguing it every week ... that way it will last you that little bit longer. You don't have to get it set on 'granny' rollers (I dont think of them as granny rollers, but they give you the idea of what I mean), you can set hair on any type of roller.

Maybe ask him to set it for you on medium/large sized velcro rollers, or even onto conical curls or something less conventional [think coke cans ala lady gaga - maybe that'll be a little crazy but it's an example]

There are loads of different techniques when it comes to perming hair you no longer have to have the conventinal set on perm rods. i have used an acid perm on large rollers starting three inches away from the root so as not to create to much volume and this has created a lovely soft wave look which has made styling this look more effective.
Perms do need maintainance as you are altering the hair structure and i think should be used to enhance a curly/wave look. in my opinion a perm will not make styling easier but can prolong that style. :wink2:

Sounds to me like you could do with finding a new hairdresser who appreciates your regular custom!!

You have fine hair so I would say that a perm for you would never perform as a set would. Sets are smooth and bouncy. If money and time aren't a problem - get it done every week, if your hairdresser is being difficult - find another who would value your regular custom.
