I went for a facial 5 days ago because I have (what seems to be) blocked pores all over my nose it feels like sandpaper to touch! it always seems to go after I have exfoliated with a very corse one.
The lady that did my facial steamed my face, squeezed my nose then used a tool (I dont know the name but its called a blackhead remover in some shops) long pen like thing with a loop on the end... it was extremly painful

Anyway, a few days later the congestion came back again, I then went to another Beauty Salon who told me to use a product called "Simply Clean by Skin Ceuticals" the congestion is back again! this isnt working either.

Could anyone please tell me what I should do

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

It will take more than one facial to get your skin feeling & looking better, you will need to keep up regular Facial treatments - It may feel like it is taking a while but it will be worth it in the end!
xx

regular exfoliating helps clear the pores , but you have to keep it up , hth

I think you should go back and have a course of facials, it will take a while for all the impurities to be removed, but after a course of treatments your skin should be looking alot better.

I have also had the blackhead remover (technical word is commedome remover) on my face and agree it does hurt, mabey you could just let her know it's painfull she may be softer with it next time, but it does take abit of pressure to squeeze them blackheads out, most of them will be deeply imbedded into the skin.

xx

So when should I have my next facial then? and do I keep exfoliating when my nose area feels like sandpaper???? I have been told not too keep exfoliating as it will surpress the oil glands even more and also not to squeeze my skin at all?

Both salons have told me too different things

you could try oxy wipes they work 4 me lolz:lol: frm me

vaseline is the best job in the world trust me it works if you want the routine give me a shout. x

I offer loads of facials but this is the greatest x

It is best not to squeeze at your skin really and not to exfoliate too often.

If you exfoliate about twice a week or maybe once every 2-3 days if you really need it this is plenty, it doesn't help if you keep changing products either as they will be treating your skin in a slightly different way. Find one you like and use it regularly, it may take a while but you will get results in the end.

Have you tried Nimue or Dermalogica? I think these are the two most popular brands and are the best at actually getting long-lasting results (obviously with everyday continued use). Find a salon in your area that uses one of these and try them out.

Boil a kettle
Large bowl
Flannel
Scrub (optional)
Cleanser
Toner

cleanse and remove all traces of make up but don't use toner, as you know this will tighten pores. If the area is quite blocked I would probably start with a facial scrub but it's entirely up to you. But I don't recommend using a scrub more than twice a week.

Next use a small amount (size of a thumbnail) of vaseline and massage onto the face for a good 5mins concentrating on the blocked areas. The massage brings heat to the area which opens up the pores obviously not roughly do it in circular movements. If you need to apply more vaseline do so.

Poor hot water (kettle) into large bowl (ensure this is really really hot) (obviously not scoulding) but it has to be hot so that it melts the vaseline. soak flannel in the water. Squeeze quickly and place over entire face. This helps opens the pores more.

Rinse flannel in the hot water and now you are going to wipe away at the blackheads. (what happens is that the vaseline gets behind the congestion and then helps to ease them out when you wipe), it's not a rush job you have to hold the hot flannel to the area for a few seconds then firmly wipe away. Do this to the rest of the face.

Once all of the vaseline has been wiped away you can then tone (this will help to tighten the pores). This step is optional.

I do hope this helps.

Iv'e never tried this Sarah, might give it a go on my daughter she is at that age now where she has congestion especially around the nose and hairline.

Can you explain how the valseline works?

together with the heat from the massage and the heat from the flannel the pores are opened up and then the vaseline gets behind the congestion and then the blackheads seem to pop out when wiped away.

Hope it helps x

Please don't think this is a miracle cure, as it's not. It will work on some people and not on others just the same as any product.

And with any routine it needs a course of treatments for it to get any benefit. It can't be just a one off treatment.

Most people I've done it on (friends and family) swear by it. I also do this on myself too x

The vaseline also leaves it moisturised so within a few hours your skin still feels soft and supple.

I do hope I've helped x

Sarah,

many clients and even the odd therapist will shoot ya down for even suggesting such a thing.Vaseline!!!lol However it has been used for ages for all sorts. My questions is, is there nothing else that can be used. I'm not sure vaseline looks too professonal if used for anything other than tinting/eyebrow waxing treatments???xx

Hi honey

That's why I don't use it on clients.

It's literally a tip I picked up a while back and thought it might help x

There was an article a while back in one of the trade magazines and a woman who is a highly respected dermatologist mentioned that vaseline was the only thing she used on her skin.

Hope it helps honey x

Have you not found that the vaseline has not added to the problem of congestion over time or are you completely happy with the results youv'e had?

My theory would be that if not all is removed the vasaline hardens again in the pores??? not too sure though about this mind you jsut me thinking off the top of my head.

What is vasaline made up of...petroleum?? is this it or is there anything else it it?

So far I've not had any problems but I always make sure that I try to remove as much of the vaseline as I can then I tend to tone afterwards.

Sorry if I've caused an uproar x

Hun, you haven't caused any uproar!! You have simply brought up something interesting for us therapists to discuss. xxx

I agree a regular facial at the salon, with steaming and extraction would be great, but dont forget that theres no point doing this unless you keep up the good work at home. Invest in a good skincare range, I use Dermalogica and think its fab, and exfoliate and use a deep cleansing masque 2-3 tmes a week. And dont forget to use a oil free moisturiser to prevent skin drying out which can also be a problem on congested skin. And the realy big no no is going to bed with your make-up on, lol. Hth
