Last september i opened my first salon just outside sheffield, the shop has been a salon for years so i took over, changed the name and gave the shop a face lift (which it desperately needed!) Everything so far is going great the salon has been a real success with the locals! The only problem i'm facing now is getting more young people to vist the salon. The salon its self is really mordern with a french boutique decor,so it really is for a young, funky client base.I dont want to offend exiting clients but i feel the people that are coming in aren't really keeping my two stylists that infused.I dont want them to get bored doing the same old same old,I know all buisness is good buisness but i really dont want the salon to go down the same root as its always been known 'The granny salon'. Any ideas how i can change it by getting more young people in without offending anyone?xx

What products do you use/retail?

Just from previous experience from working in a salon....

The techniart rage from loreal would be good to attract the younger age!

Why not get some funky marketing material, that will appeal to younger people as well as the oldies! It also helps if the staff working in the salon are dressed trendy with trendy hair! x

We stock Tigi,Wella and ghd, both girls are really funky and modern, I really dont know where we're going wrong.Ive spent alot on doing the salon up and advertising in a glossy mag.The client base is really mixed, i just dont want to attract the clients that the salon had before. I know that sounds really stuck up but i really want to give the right image out and have a really young lively salon.x

You could try standing out side of Topshop, H&M, shops like that and had out 10% flyer's out to all young people! Or a free C/B with every colour!

Younger people will have out for nowt!!

One thing i have done with my mobile biz, i have set up a myspace & Facebook for it! I have added everyone in the area, i update it with new offers, new treatments and stuff like that! I get quite a lot of biz from that! And you can target the age group you like. x

now, you said your place looks like a French boutique and then said it looked 'dead trendy'.

When you are there next, go and stand across the road and look at it, really look at your salon.

What have you got in the window, do you change the display at all? Does it tell people from the outside what products you use?

Perhaps make some funky leaflets up and do a leaflet drop.

OMG I just clicked on your myspace link, I cannot believe you are encouraging people to work on the side (i.e. illegally), that you swear, that you but down other shops.........I darent even read your blogs!!!

sorry no wanting to offend, it's just my opinion, but I cannt see why a pro like you would offer to train people to spray tan to earn 'money on the side' when so many of us on here WORK HARD AND DO IT LEAGALLY!!!:hug: <<<hugs cos I dont mean offence, just thought I'd point it out

Earning 'money on the side' round my way doesn't mean ILLEGALLY it means a part time job other than your main income!! (like how i started out) Not once have i mentioned that people should work ILLEGALLY!!!!!!

I put down other shops in my area cos the are CRAP... claiming they are using high brand products when they are not! Telling their customers not to come to me cos i am too pricey!!! (they charge £15 for 2 fake bake spray tans, its not fake bake)

Id have a little competition for the juniors, let them have friends as models ,take pictures and hang them in your window/ or on a notice board for a few days , hopefully their friends will attract more friends and then people passing will see younger clientelle and so be more interested .
