Hey all...

I've applied to get into my local college to start a hairdressing course (Level 1 SVQ)

I got accepted for the course however I received a letter this morning asking to attend a 'Pre-entry test' was looking for a heads up on what to expect. Any college lecturers help would be so much appreciated...

Thanks in advance

Hey,

I'm actually training to be a hairdressing lecturer, but we haven't been told much about the new qualifications (as of September 2011 all NVQ qualifications will change to SVQ or similar, which is what you have applied for). All i can tell you is that when i had my pre-entry test i had to do a blow dry on a model and then use tongs afterwards, then i had to sit a English and Maths assessment on the computer. Not to difficult really, the English and Maths assessments were just to see what level of English and Maths i was working at, to see whether i needed any extra support. I can only assume it's the same at your local college, if the letter states you need to bring a model, then the most you'll do is blow drying, if not then it's most likely just a Maths and English assessment.

Hope this helps :)

For your Level 1 SVQ I don't think they will ask you do do a model etc... I think it is more along the line of key skills, ie maths, english etc... as you need these thought levels 1, 2 and 3. Nothing to worry about I wouldn't have thought.

It does say the session will involve both practical and written elements, also to wear a black top, trousers and flat shoes...Hair up no make up or nail enamel...

I'm thinking.. maybe it's too see if i could skip level 1 and go straight into level 2? I do know with some courses if you have certain standard grades you can go straight into different levels..

Thanks anyway for the info :green:

Not too sure how it's done up in Scotland, maybe you could give them a call I'm sure someone will explain what you will be doing?
