I'm due to have my first sack and crack wax in a week or so and have seen so much online about the treatment itself but not much around preparation (as in skincare and the like) so wonder if any of the experts I have seen on here have any hints and tips.
Also, if there are any hints and tips around how to cope during (and remember I've not done this before so anything I might expect would help too) and afterwards.

Realise this could prompt a few lengthy responses but I'm sure they'll all be very useful. just want to make the experience worthwhile and reduce risk of causing myself uneccessary pain or discomfort.

Look forward to hearing from you all.

In terms of prep there isnt an awful lot you can do. Make sure you've bathed / showered beforehand. If the hair is very long, trim it if you can to about half an inch because longer hair is difficult & more painful to wax. Some people find it helps to take a couple of painkillers about an hour before your appointment. Your therapist will give you aftercare advice but exfoliating regularly & using baby oil after bathing will help minimise ingrowing hairs.

You don't need to prep yourself. Just be freshly showered for your therapist. I personally wouldn't recommend you trim unless your therapist has asked you to, as many therapists prefer to do this themselves. (There is a risk if the client does it, they may trim the hair too short.)

The whole experience is really nothing to worry about.

Thank you for the advice, seems like I've not got much to worry about.

Nothing special to do, just shower before you go.

The most important thing is to choose an experienced waxer.

Thank you. So no need to exfoliate in the run up or trim? Hope the treatment is so easy :) ...

I would say 'a gentle ex-foliation of the area the night before just to remove any dead skin cells and help lift the hairs. Take a pain killer an hour or so before hand, maybe have on hand some antihistamine tablets just in case worse case scenario you have a histamine reaction to the wax/waxing. Also avoid tea, coffee or other stimulants before hand as one waxing teacher i had suggested that these can heighten skin sensitivity, so perhaps ditch that espresso first thing. Ensure you have a properly trained therapist who will hopefully be using non-strip hot wax on you', good luck and do let us know how you get on!!
Good Luck!!

Thank you for your reply, always nice to hear from the experts / people who do this regularly. Last thing I want to do is ruin it for myself, plus I want to make the whole experience easier for me and my therapist. I imagine it's awkward enough with the situation as it is let alone if I scream in pain because I've drank tea before hand. I go on Thursday so will definitely let you know... Just hoping for a (virtually) pain free session with no unwanted side affects and it all nice and smooth in the desired area :) .

Thank you again.

Some sound words of advice here- Axiom Bodyworks | Male Grooming: Hair Removal

and here- About Male Waxing

both from therapists specialising in male intimate waxing.

Thank you for the links, all this advice is defintiely helping me to not change my mind. I'm only 2 days off and have been close to cancelling just down to nerves about the whole thing as well as the potential embaressement factor. But don't worry, with all this advice I'm going ahead with it and will carry on regardless no matter pain, nerves or other bits out of my control.

Thank you all again! :)

For all of you who gave me advice and replied to this thread (and anyone viewing after the event), I have now broken my sack and crack virginity, and I have to say I'm really pleased with the results and have to say that Jackie (from Jackies Male Grooming) was brilliant, professional and a credit to her profession.
I have to be honest I was close to cancelling the appointment on so many times, for so many reasons (nerves, embaressment, panic, etc...) but this morning I went through with it.

For anyone who might find themselves reading this thread as part of research (as I did a few weeks ago), I can tell you it does twinge a little in some areas but after having my back done and the odd tattoo it's actually not that bad. I can tell you all the advice these sites and other sites give are all true, so:
  • Take a painkiller before hand.
  • Exfoliate in the days running up to the appointment.
  • Don't trim, the therapist is a much better judge of what is too short or too long.
  • Qualifications are everything in this profession, I can tell from my experience that without these I might have been alot of pain.
  • Don't worry about 'rising to the occassion', this treatment is far from sexual and it does go very quickly.
Good luck to all those that decide to do this, it's definitely worth it!

Well done.. you will be a wax junkie now!!
Great feedback for the therapist as well

Jack

Woo Hoo! Good for you. Your waxer sounds fab and I'm happy that we have another convert to male waxing.

I'm defintiely a convert, going back in a few weeks, but trying someone a bit more local. I have to say the whole experience wasn't to bed... quite exilerating really.
