Hi
I've seen many a post about getting help with start up costs, people thinking they are too old etc thought I'd share some info about the princes trust.
I've recently taken voluntary redundancy and I will be starting up my own business. Like most people I don't have the money to buy everything I need to start up. This is when I applied to the princes trust. I've been on an induction course today explaining ways in which they can help. I must say I was rather impressed and I'm really looking forward to my 4 day enterprise training course at the end of the month.
On this course I will be covering marketing, dealing with tax and national insurance, finance, deciding whether to become a sole trader or a limited company etc. You are then expected to put together a business plan in order to be eligible for funding.
The princes trust helps people aged up to 30! You get a mentor throughout to answer any questions you may come across with opening a new business and throughout your journey and beyond. You are allowed to apply for up to 4k too! Repayment costs are low and can be taken over 36 months!
I will let you know how my course goes at the end of the month!
Lucy xx

Can I ask what number you rang and what said to them because they said they could only help me with £140

Good luck with it Lucy. I applied to them years back and did my course just like you're doing. I did mine for dog grooming though as I wasn't into nails back then. I learned loads on the bis course. Met some lovely people too. I did set up my business and had it successfully for almost five years . Good luck and I'm sure you will get your funding.xx

Do you know if they would help me with my conversion course and starting up my business x

Holly09 - I applied on line first and got sent info via email and a call from the local coordinator in my area.
Thanks mrs turner xx :)

I'm not sure hun, the criteria may have changed since I did it. Have you had a good read on the website ?? And rung an advisor ?? I think your financial situation comes into it , as when I did it , I was a single mum with no income or savings. You can apply via the web site. Go for it , what you got to lose , ?? But lots to gain 😁xx

You need to get yourself onto the course first if you want help starting up. They consider anyone going self employed, although you do have to submit a business plan.
HTH xx

You will prob need to apply for the Enterprise part . There are different parts to princes trust. It's for unemployed or only working 16 hours a week. X

I would suggest the enterprise programme as you will get a good understanding of what being self employed is really like.. You may even decide its not for you! X

Okay thanks I will have a proper look at the enterprise now and go from there..
I am self employed but hardly work as I'm waiting to do my conversion but I have a disabled son and to be honest there is no one that seems to want to help me x

You go for it Holly. Just 'fit ' yourself into the criteria and you will be fine. All the best to you and your son . Let us know how you get on hun xx

Okay thank you will do xx

Hi

Can I ask what the repayments are like for the Enterprise loans?

6% - payable over 36 months x

I did the enterprise programme. They do have restrictions on who they take. The guy who helped me apply lied on the form to say I didn't have qualifications as none of the other criteria applied to me. I think the other things were like homelessness, battling drug or alcohol addiction and a few others. It's a bit restricting but most of the time they are happy to help you make yourself fit the criteria.

I don't have any qualifications apart from 12 year old GCSEs and I'm currently unemployed so hopefully they will help me.

You never know unless you try. I have my 4 day enterprise programme at the end of feb ill keep you posted xx
