Good morning,

I am after some help please. 4 weeks ago I had micro loop hair extensions put in,18 inch, my hair is quite fine but lots of it. It looked beautiful the first week or so. I paid several hundred pounds for them and was told there were about 200 strands of Russian hair. I lost about 4 strands in the first week and I had expected this.

I noticed in the first week that the sides of my hair looked and felt a lot thinner than the back and emailed the salon and was told at maintenance we can add a few more at the sides if you are not happy with it.

3 weeks later (maintenance booked for next week), my hair looks a total mess. I have lost about 30 strands, the hair felt incredibly dry and straw like at the weekend (had to put intensive treatment on for ages down the extension lengths) and just about every stand has slipped down about one and half inches or more (don't think my hair has grown that much as slow growing anyway).

Sent an email to the salon and got a very short unconcerned reply that this is totally normal, we reposition the strands at maintenance and hope you have kept the lost strands so we can replace them (this was not mentioned when fitted and they often came out at inconvenient moments and was shoved in my handbag, so guess I will be charged for more hair).

I work doing bridal hair and nails and like to look groomed to portray a professional image and my hair looks a total mess (today I've had to scrape it back in a pony tail as so many missing strands, loose it looks patchy and like someone has cut in layers with a blunt knife)

Is what I'm being told normal, I've used all the products purchased from the salon, shampoo, conditioner, brush and followed the care instructions to the letter. Really disappointed, I knew extensions were high maintenance but expected them to look good for longer.

Thank you for taking the time to read.

If it was Russian hair then after 3/4 weeks it's shouldn't be dry straw like how were you told to brush them? Assuming this is your first set of extensions? What aftercare instructions and shampoo were you given?

Thanks for your reply.

I suspect after reading on here they are not Russian hair at all! On my sides I have two rows of hair each side about 18 strands in total each side. I suspect the strands are .5g as two of the lost one I popped on my digital scales and they came to 1g.

I was not given comprehensive after care instructions, other than to use the brush, shampoo and conditioner I purchased and to use spray in conditioner and Moroccan oil on then, use heat protect spray before using heated appliances. . Most of it I picked up on here. I brush the hair holding below the bonds starting at the bottom any tangles I try to release with my fingers rather than harsh brushing . I wash every other day, taking the shampoo down the hair and nor rubbing, conditioner I only take down below the bonds. I separate the bonds daily with my fingers daily to check they are not matting or tangled. I plait the hair in a single plait to sleep. I purchased X10 shampoo and conditioner and a Headjog 101 brush (although their website is now pushing the Balmain brush). I use the spray in conditioner and tried Moroccan oil on them but it made then feel really horrible (like dolls hair) and I only used a tiny amount. On the sheet it says maintenance every 6-10 weeks or when hair growth reaches an inch, dread to think what these would look like after 10 weeks!

I'm really annoyed as they cost just on £400 and I feel like I've been ripped off, if I need to get these removed and have someone else do them. Wish I'd found this forum before and done more research. I'm doing a wedding fair this weekend and need to get them sorted before then as they look so awful.
