Hi hair geeks... I'm no hairdresser (I go as far straightening and styling!) I only have my hair coloured 2-3 times a year and that's always done at my hairdressers, but I I hair cut regularly.
My hair has always been in really nice condition until about 6 months ago when it started looking dead so I had a really good cut on it, probably 2-3 inches off. After that it looked ok for a couple of weeks and then went back to looking dead again but then it has started falling out too 😞
Please help!! Any advice would be good

How often do you straighten your hair and do you use products? Is your hair thick or thin and how long is it? Do you have layers? X

I had the same thing with my hair. Been going through stressful time and only now after 5 months has it started to stop falling out so much. I had a blood test etc done to check wasn't thyroid. Hth x

I hardly ever straighten it anymore and before it was only every other day or every two days. I use that new treseme (however it's spelt) serum that's meant to help repair your hair for upto 2 years of damage and before that argon oil. My hairs not as thick as it used to be because it's all falling out 😞 and it's to the top of my shoulder blades with some long layers in it x

I've been tested for my thyroid as well but it all came back fine and I'm not under any stress and I'm healthy too x

No store brand products ever do what they say they will. There's a possibility that it's because your layers are too long and your hair is very heavy which is causing breakage. It could also be the straighteners. Try getting a moisturising shampoo and always use heat protectant. How often do you wash your hair? X

The stuff I'm using has a heat protector in it (or so it says) and I wash it every 3-4 days unless I'm going out somewhere x

Its tough to find the causes of this type of oddity sometimes. On your next viz to your stylist, ask for an opinion. Sometimes products, even if used in the past worked well, stop working well after time. People can suddenly or @ random just not mix well with certain product for no apparent reason.

It may be possible if no health/dietary factors are involved, that there is product build up on the hairshaft which can be detected by scraping a strand with a sharp blade & seeing if any whitish, waxish residue peels off it. A chelating shampoo left on + low-heat air dryer used for swimmers,dust/drywall workers would strip it off.

Over proteining the hair causes dull brittle hair after prolonged use,if you use a protein replacement line for everyday hair care it may be just a matter of switching lines.

Diet & stress also shows up in our hair so any dietary changes or life stresses could be culprit.
