I just want to get the views of other professionals on here.

Quite a while ago I studied at college for 3 years, working in a salon as a junior, learnt all the modules and units, learning structure of hair etc. Now 9 years later I would class myself as an experienced stylist, I have also been doing extensions for 4 years. Now own my own business.

Now I remember the days where a "trade only" shop would mean just that.

These days people seem to attend day courses on a few subjects and class themselves as professionals, gaining cards to shop in wholesalers.

Also people attending 1 day hair extension courses and then advertising as being "hair extension specialists" with no previous experience.

I have had to fix so many bad extensions and colours lately and it seems to be on the rise. Is this due to people thinking its easy money and a way to work for yourself? Internet advertising more courses?

Sound like a right old moaner lol, just wondering what your views are and do you think it should be monitored more?

I totally agree.
I am currently acting as an expert witness on four different hair extension court cases. All involve non hairdressers who have done 1 day courses. All 4 cases involve micro rings.
These stupid girls are totally taken in by the pedlars of one day courses and think they can earn a shedload. The only people that make money are the people selling these courses.
I cannot go into much detail re the cases, however I am hoping that we see some changes when the media get involved. One poor girl has horrific hair loss.
I too am a hair pro, and have done several extension courses with some of the best names in the business, and have been involved in hair extensions since Antenna and Simon Forbes back in the 80's when we were truly innovating. I introduced the concept of colour mixing monofibre to get an exact match in the same way a professional hair merchant does, as I have a wigmaking qualification too.
I truly despair at the half truths and misinformed opinions I read on here on an almost daily basis. I actually keep away from the extension threads most of the time now as it makes me so cross to read the rubbish that people seem to truly believe about what constitutes "good" hair.
And breathe........:green:
