Hi everyone,
I am mobile and have been for the last 2 years. I've steadily gained a good clientele and I live near an Raf base which I have had a lot of clients from. I now may have the opportunity to rent a room on the raf base which is already done out as a small salon. The person that was doing it there before has left to have children. I would love to have my own space to work from as i hate carrying everything around with me and the rent is virtually nothing as it is providing a service to the raf wives. My only worry is that the clients I have now would not want to come to a room as I think they like me coming to them. I don't do facials at the moment as I think people would find it more relaxing going out to have it done than be at home where the phone rings and kids are in etc so it would be a good opportunity to be able to provide more treatments. Also i'd like dermalogica but they don't supply to mobiles. Ideally i'd like to have a room in a house when i move out but i can't afford to do that for a few years yet. Just need some advice, what should I do? I don't know what would be best to do??

Thanks in advance for your help xx

wow! fab opportunity!!!

grab it and do both!

set 1 day a week where you do limited mobile treatments and 4 days a week at the base.

you then have the best of both worlds.

you don't really state what treatments you do, so if you are in a room you could offer facials and waxing.

good luck, I think its a wonderful opportunity and you should grab it with both hands.

Hi

Make Sure That The Raf Base Will Allow Civilian People In As They Can Be Tight On Security. If Not Does The Base Have Enough Clients For You To Run A Full Time Business

Like Hippy Chick Said, Why Not Do Both

I checked on that and I would get a permanent workers pass so all I'd have to do is write their name down on the list that they were coming and they could get a pass. I was just not sure if clients would be put off coming because of having to get a pass?? I'm not sure if it would be easy enough to put my mobile clients into specific days as i do a lot of evenings and I don't want to be working every night!! I suppose with it being a room it wouldn't matter if I went out to do a couple of mobile clients? I think most of my regular nail clients would come to the room as they followed me from a previous salon it would just be the people that can't get out like mums with little ones or elderly.

still think you could do both littlekate.

get some menus made up with your availability in the salon and mobile.

send them to all your existing clients, you'd be surprised how flexible they will become when its stated to them what your new working hours are.

I work 2 rooms

salon 1: salon 2:
mon 9.30 - 12.30
tue 9.30 - 12.30 2 - 8
wed 9.30 - 3
thur 9.30 - 3
fri 1.30 - 4.30 9.30 - 12.30

In that time, I also do some teaching, so cancel them out of my appointment book, and talks and demos.

Its do-able.

Thanks for that. I always forget that its me that controls where and when I work! Well I just hope I get it now. Ive wanted my own place for ages and having a salon just seems so expensive that you have to make so much money to actually make any profit (its so expensive here in oxfordshire). I think i'll give it a go and if all else fails I can always go back to being mobile can't I!

Will let you know how I get on xx

just wanna say, glad you're gonna go for it! Really wishing you lots of success, and I think doing both is an excellent idea!

good luck hun , hope it works out well for you xxxx

I think it could be a great opportunity for you. Good luck!

will you please keep us updated on your decision?:)

That sounds brilliant, I hope all goes well for you good luck:hug:

And goodluck from me too.xxx:)

Aw thanks for all your good luck messages. I'm going to ring the lady now and have a chat about it. The room I want (which is all set up for beauty) is currently being used for storage by a personal trainer so I may have to wait for that one. The clients I already have on camp have been great and are desperate for me to get a room so one has given me a number for a lady that deals with it and they have possibly found me another room, although I may have to kit it out myself. Not sure what i'll do yet as ideally i'd like the one that is already kitted out so then I don't have to spend too much setting it up. Will keep you posted! xx
