Hi, I have bleached hair which is (was) in very good, healthy condition. I have always received compliments about the condition of my hair from hairdressers and I put it down to regular good conditioning, not over washing, leaving the re-growth come in for some time before having roots done and making sure my hair is never bleached over areas that have already been bleached.

I started using L'oreal Elvive Full Restore 5 Extreme Repairing conditioner about 3 weeks ago thinking it sounded like a super product. However the last time I used it I realised that I had loads of breakage throughout my hair. I use a wide tooth comb for my hair when it is wet and when I gently combed through there was alot of hair in the comb which has just snapped off as I combed through. Within the 3 weeks I have used the conditioner (maybe 6 times), my hair has gone from looking full and healthy to looking brittle and frail.

This has never happened before and while trying to work out what was going on I vaguely remembered reading something a long time ago about the "overuse" of protein shampoos and conditioners on bleached hair and how it could be very damaging. I did a few internet searches but I can not really find what it was a I read before about it.

Does anyone here know anything about this?

Hey ive has this same problem and it was a redken product. It is the protein. Buy another deep conditioner but for moisture avoid anything reconstruction or protein for quite a while. My curly hair always responds better the moisturising products. X

Yes protein can make the hair hard and brittle and over strengthen.

KMS has a technology that worked like protein and moisture together.

I'd recommend moistrepair shampoo conditioner and revival cream.

Thank you. The KMS moisture shampoo says it "reconstructs". Wouldn't that mean it has protein's in it?

No it has lactic and malic acid in it. They are smaller than proteins so can penetrate deeper. Then you have the moisture part. So imagine the reconstruct and softeness so you don't get that hardening.

is revival cream a conditioner ColourGirly? I always used it as a blow dry lotion!

Yes it's a leave in conditioned 😉
