I'd look at it this way. Imagine the length of time it would take you (and/or your staff) to work in order to earn enough money to pay Qype for their premium listing.
Then consider how many free directories you could sign up to (e.g. from the list given in Free Directory List - Directory Critic which another geek on here kindly posted a few weeks ago) in the same length of time.
I'd wager that you would be able to sign up to a surprisingly large number of free directories in the same time that it would take to earn the money to pay Qype - and that the combined effect of having your business listed in all those free directories may well bring in more new clients than having a premium listing on a single site.
This is even more critical if your turnover is close to (but just below) the VAT threshold. If needing to earn the extra money required to pay Qype takes you just over the VAT threshold, then you'll lose one sixth of your total annual tunover to the VAT man - as well as still having to pay Qype!!!
