Welcome to the Hair Geek Forums :)

I wanted to reinforce a couple of important points regarding the use of this forum so please give this a quick gander before creating new threads or new posts.

This is a forum for professional Hair Geeks. That does not mean that you can not post unless you are a pro; it means that you must treat it as a professional forum.

If you are not a hair professional:
  • Do not recommend products or procedures (especially OTC and DIY products or procedures. This is a professional forum NOT a DIY shop)
  • Do not ask which 'DIY' kits or 'OTC' products to use in performing a treatment on yourself or on a friend
Otherwise, feel free to participate in discussions and contribute constructively. The whole point of bringing Hair, Skin and Nails together was to learn from one another :)

It's great to have some guide lines on posting in this forum for all to see.

Here's hoping it will be as much of a success and the Nail geek and Skin geek forums !

Thanks :D

I agree about not spouting off about the best hair dye in boots as i would regard that a job for the proffesionals....but if i was to find and use a fab new hair mouse or serum, I'm ok to pass that information on...right ???

Its the same as nails - i wouldnt recommend the rio kit to people wanting their nails done.

So its not fair for me to recommend a OTC kit to people for hair.

Respect the advice of professionals - they know best. xx

I don't mind as long as it is a professional product. The Nail Professionals know that OTC nail products are for the most part pants. The Skin Professionals know that OTC skin products for the most part are pants.

I can't think of any Hair Professional that thinks Fructus or Suave is enough of a quality product that they would have it at the back bar.

HTHs :)

I agree, we dont need potions made at home posted on here! Just saw one recomending rubbing baking soda into your hair...very professional!

Absolutely Jonathon :!:

Please be mindful of the rules of the forums. If you are not a professional hair geek then please refrain from giving professional hair advice.

If you want general advice about what products to buy in the likes of Boots or Superdrug then please post these questions in Chit Chat and not in Hair Geek.

I've also noticed that sometimes a geek will ask specifically for a pro hair stylists advice and a nail or skin geek will write back giving advice. I think they should leave it to the pro.

This sure needs a bump geeky peeps :D

Totally agree with all that been said I started out as an hairdresser and then moved onto nails so have not been in the hair loop so to speak for many years now, I have tried to help on the hair geek from time to time when someone posts and gets no replies but I think we need more hair geeks on the boards to help out :)

It's great to share info as we can always learn new ways of doing things and just because my name is The Wax Queen..........I don't think that I know more than anyone else about waxing. It's simply a catchy tag.

I read the hair threads in awe as I think that hair stylists are amazing and their talent is often undervalued. So, I read, I learn..........but I don't try to teach as I'm not a hair pro.

Same with nails. I trained with Creative a number of years ago and back then I knew loads. However, I gave up nails as I was crap and decided to leave it to the experts. So now when I read the nail threads, I never try to give advice as I'm out of date and no longer feel qualified. I just read and learn.

So this brings me on to product advice. I wish that people would not give advice on a particular product unless you know for sure that you've got your facts right. I'm not saying that you shouldn't comment about your experiences but as for products advice..........just read and learn.xxx

I think this needs revisiting, with the new forum for consumer queries hair geek needn't be used for such posts :D

Hi i agree with your message about, the baking soda, i have been told this by a professional before and now im in the industry i have passed it on to a few clients and they thought it worked great! X X x

Wow! I know most of you are from the UK, when I saw that first post about the baking soda I just thought to myself; I've been using that for years as a clarifying solution for build up of products on hair. As I read on and saw that the majority of professionals do use this natural remedy too.
I enjoy reading the posts on salongeek, I'm very interested in shairing information and listening to beauty pros all over the world, we learn alot by being team players.

Please be mindfull of the rules of this forum peeps, many hair messers don't even post in this forum as it's difficult to find pro threads and work your way through the non pro reply's.

i read only the other day a non hair geek recommending fabreeze to get red out!!!!!! was disgusted!

I am bumping this up AGAIN!

If you are a non hair geek, PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR QUESTION IN HERE.

Give the hair geeks the respect that nail geeks and skin geeks get please!

If you want to know what OTC hair dye to use or if you have used an OTC product and it has gone pearshaped and want to know what you can do at home then dont post it here - post it in chit chat.

Would you actually take an OTC hair dye box to your local hair salon and ask them how to use it - if no, then dont to it here!

just bumping this
scince i have been shot down in flames for a reply of which was posted on the hair forum and the thread has scince been moved..making me look a fool .
the reply was to a post which HAD been posted on the hair forum initially when i replied to it..
