Hi!
Ive popped across from skin geeks to ask a question....

I have brown hair, I was born naturally VERY dark brown, but over the years have died it sooooo much its ruined....
Not the condition, thats semi-ok, but i have very fine hair from pregnancy.

The last time i did my hair i had a mobile hairdresser come and do a colour and extensions. She had to do a bleach bath to get old colour out and then put a quasi dark brown on top....
long story short my hair didnt take one single bit and by the next morning was orange/red.

She came back and put a permenant dark brown on, at which it went very dark, but with in 2 weeks has lightened amazingly to a very very light brown.

ANYWAY...thats the background on my awful hair...
I now want to go BRIGHT RED, like Rihanna, pillar box red,

and wondered how i would go about this? and if it would work...
I dont ming the upkeep and stuff, just an idea of if it would kill off my hair as its so fine etc?

THANKS!!!

Hi there,

I am not a hairdresser but have lots of experience and have bright orange/red hair myself. I would recommend putting a semi colour stain on like Crazy Colour, Manic Panic, Directions or Special Effects.

They are vegetable based colours and do not damage your hair, I have to pre lighten my hair to get it bright but as you have a light brown base I would just put one on top of that and it wont damage your hair one bit!

They come out super bright and last for about 5 weeks! Special Effects is my favourite and do SO many different reds. You can buy it from here:

Crazy color only goes a vibrant colour over light/pre lightened hair.

It's hard to say how damaging it would be without seeing your hair.

It should be ok with a low strength bleach bath.

Could you not go to a local hairdressers and have a consultation? They would do some strand tests aswell to see exactly what the outcome would be.

The crazy colours do go brighter over pre-lightened hair and grab better but I have used Special Effects (it last the longest, crazy colour fades a lot quicker) over my naturalish colour and it still came out really bright. Its worth a go as they are only semis and I know how hard it is when you can't afford to go to the hairdressers all the time and red hair is very high maintenance. However if you do want it REALLY bright you will have to bleach first and if you are not confident doing it yourself then definitely go to your hairdressers. xx

If you are not a hairdresser, than do not give hairdressing advice on here.

I dont tell people how to do acrylics because I am not trained in them. Simple as.

To the OP - the best thing would be to go for a consultation, it sounds like your hair is damaged and they will be able to advise you when they can do porosity tests etc to see what your hair can handle. Good luck x

My apologies was just trying to help. Good luck Fake it Beauty. xx
