I am currently sat on the floor while my mum is removing my hair extensions, they r glued in. Shes using cotton wool soaked in acetone but its leaving some of the glue in the hair, is there any advice anyone can give me to help? I'm scared of going bald! Lol x

I don't soak mine in acetone as I have allergies, I use baby oil soak your hair in it break the bonds with my nails and slide them out.

Yes, tell her to stop, and contact a professional tomorrow : )

That is not a good idea.
The best advice is to soak your hair in conditioner over night as this loosens the bonds, then get a professional to remove them for you. Alternatively you can purchase bonding remover and a pair of extension remover pliers which you use to break the bond by squeezing it, then apply the bond remover leave it for a minute and the gently manipulate it out of your hair. I really would recommend a professional do it for her as they are trained in removal techniques that won't cause damage to her hair!!!

Never mind, do this..... do that......

This was posted in the professional hair forum, not consumer enquiries, seek a professional is all the advice that should be given surely??

Ive lost count of the number of girls that have come to me trying to blame other hairdressers for ruining there hairs with extensions, when 90% of the time, when you ask them the damage caused is from incorrect removal, people that dont want to spend X amount of money to have them safely removed, but actually end up buying bottle after bottle of acetone, and getting so frustrated they end up cutting the extensions out, or pulling there hair out?

Its things like this that give hair extensions a bad rep.

Do u always use acetone or an acetone based remover, or is there something else acetone free u use?

Hi, I use the balmain quick remover, I find the dissolver gel very kind on hair, quick, and easy to use,and makes the process alot more pleasant for the client : )

I absolutely agree that you must seek a professional. I too have had so many girls call me up and say "your extensions have pulled my hair out" and im like no you have pulled your hair out by removing yourself. Its so annoying and even more annoying when they go to a salon or someone else to have them removed as only i know my bonds and what best to remove. Not only that a lot of places if its not their work will try to speed up the removal process by being too rough, i have actually seen them try to comb the extensions out without remover or breaking them! So i think everyone will agree that rule of thumb is to go back to same place that fitted them for removal and you wont go far wrong x

Internet went down so only just been able to get on to see replies! Thanku all for responding, I am a hairdresser so I do understand how to look after my hair, and ive had to take extensions out for clients before and has been no problem but a friend did them for me (she's not a hairdresser, just did a course with someone she knew for hair extensions) and I have no idea what glue she used to stick them in, but it must have been some industrial strength crap as I've never come across anything like it before! (last time I just trust a friend lol) have managed to get them all out with no obvious damage to my own hair, I ended up in pain so stopped almost straight away and slept with conditioner in my hair overnight and they came out almost easily the next day! Defo won't be having them done again though, will be sticking to my trusty clip ins from now on! And be able to wash my hair and scalp properly! :)
