A quick question for those in the know

If I rent out two chairs in a salon, do I need to have cover them on my business insurance?

Awaiting replies

Yes.
As the salon owner, you’d purchase public liability insurance for the entire premises that you use/rent out.

You have a legal duty of care towards the clients in your salon but also towards the hairdressers using the premises and renting your chairs.

Thanks, Haircutz, for your reply.

Am I right that each stylist has to have their own public liability insurance as well?

Definitely.
I also recommend that you insist on seeing evidence of their insurance cover when renting out the chairs.

If, for instance, a hairdresser burnt a client with their flat iron and had no insurance cover and no assets, the client would probably attempt to sue the salon instead and the salon could be held liable.

Again thanks for taking time out to reply.

So to clarify as the salon owner, so to speak I need to take out cover to cover them and the public, while they take out cover to cover their customers is that correct?

You’re taking out insurance cover to deal with any accident or injury that takes place within the salon, regardless of who caused it.

If a client wants to sue the independent hairdresser for breach of contract because they accidentally coloured her hair golden brown instead of pale blonde, that’s not your problem and they will have to sue the hairdresser directly.
