Renting a chair, need help - Today, 04:57 PM
Hi guys,
I'm new to this but hope someone can help me. My employer has given me a choice of staying employed or starting to rent a chair. I am tempted by the self employed choice but I need some advice on what the going rate is, she is wanting to charge £180 a week with rates included. I would have to provide my own stock & get my own insurance. Please can someone tell me if this is excessive or about right. I work in a salon in a small village outside of Leeds. Thanks Kelly.x

How many days are u gonna be doing?

Do you have a good clientelle? Is the salon busy? Is it in a good location? If i was you id find out what other salons are charging first, i rented a chair at first, now i have my own salon. But £180 seems a little steep to me, it also depends on how much you charge for your services x

Hello
I too have just gone self employed.The OP have covered most of the questions to ask.I am in Edinburgh and thought that £50 to £70 a day is average and that doesnt include the other costs like,stock, insurance, tax and NI,marketing so I think you have got a bargain in my opinion.
ITs week 2 and I am loving it!!! wish I had done it years ago.
take care:D

id say this is pretty average tbh. to be fair when renting a chair the only income a owner is taking in from u is rent so when u average it out over the week ur like 35 quid a day there. . . im 38 pounds a day and that is my rent and a contribution to a juniours wage.
i am MUCH better off being self employed. . seriously much better off, i earn in a week almost what i earned in a month. . . xx

I pay £200 a week for my chair and I do 5 days a week and that's with everything. The only things I supply are my tools and advertising. I only think it's a good idea if you are fully booked 95% of the time other wise it's a big risk xxx

Thanks guys,

Head is a total shed!!:irked::irked::irked:
Really don't know what to do now. When i think about it I wouldn't be working 5 day's as i have 9 month old & i couldn't really work full time, glad one of you brought that to my attention. Not sure it would be worth it until i could work full time again.
