I'm thinking that when salons and barbershops are allowed to reopen we may be faced with being expected to use things like disposable gowns, gloves, face masks etc. I'm Trying to prepare with disposable gowns, which hasn't been easy. The best I could find cost £17 for a pack of 50. I'll use them all within 3 days. Can't find a large enough hand sanitizer to sit at the entrance for all the people entering. Does anyone know where to find things like disposable gowns and masks etc? are other businesses thinking this will all be important too when we reopen?

I can’t think we will be wearing disposable gowns. That comes under the full protection outfit that you wear if treating hospital patients with the virus.

You could wear a long disposable apron, gloves and mask like the carers wear. This in conjunction with hand sanitisers, cleaning, washing towels and tunics at 60 degrees plus etc should be sufficient.

Thanks for you reply.

Just to clarify, I don't mean gowns/aprons for us as the stylists, I don't expect we'll be expected to wear aprons like the nurses. I mean the gowns we cover the clients with.

Thanks.

PPE on the brain!!!...

Yep - it will be costing a lot more to run our our salons..... disposable gowns, towels masks & gloves....
Some of these things I’ve always done
However, due to demand there will be a problem with supply and the costs have rocketed!

I don’t see why you can’t have a different gown for each client and wash them afterwards?
I used to do that anyway but to be fair, I was working from home and didn’t take clients back to back.

My concerns for staff will be with less experienced staff who still occasionally cut their fingers.

Also, I think you’d have to cut out offering refreshments in the short term. I’d want any mugs used to be washed in a dishwasher at a high temperature rather than by hand in a sink.

I’m not keen on using disposable stuff, especially plastics.

Yes I’ve had the same thoughts about refreshments. We stopped offering them before lock down.

Scrummi.com have introduced a disposable “poncho” £72 for 100 max 2 boxes per order. I’m not sure what to do about masks - with the NHS in short supply for health care workers I can’t in all conscience buy in for my client needs. I’m looking into getting a sneeze guard made but it still leaves me with the problem of air filled with micro particles of virus of someone is

I’m not a hairdresser so can’t comment about hair washing, but I’m thinking you may need to spray hair at the chair, rather than wash.

I ordered a touch free sanitizer dispenser before shut down, I’m hoping it will arrive before we reopen, but I’ll still need a specialist product to fill it and I can’t find anyone to accept my order. Before lockdown we were escorting clients to the loo to wash their hands.

I’ve been thinking I’ll have to fit those touch free taps and loo presses. I’m not sure if they’ll fit my existing vanity sink and cistern so I’m feeling a bit rueful about that.

Hi all, i have one of these in my home salon as I like to be as clean air as poss with all the chemicals and what nots, might help u guys?

I’ve ordered a giant 70% gel sanitizer and a smaller bottle to refill. I always use gloves for what I do anyway but I’ve ordered a reusable apron which is waterproof and I can spray down with barbicide between clients rather than disposable. I’ve ordered 100 masks but they’ve taken 3-4 weeks to get here. I’ve decided to ask clients if they wish to wear a mask then to bring their own or wear it on arrival otherwise we simply won’t be able to keep up in stock.

Is anyone a member of the NHF?
I hope that they’ll be offering advice to members before re-opening.
