HI fellow geeks,

Ok so...I've been tentatively asked by some people at a call centre to come in once a month to perform beauty treatments. This is good for me as I am just trying to set up as mobile and if its successful it would give my business a wee boost as I am currently not doing much at all...

Anyway the HR/Health and Safety guy has asked about insurance and risk assessments. Now the thing is, I've never done a risk assessment. I don't know what it entails, what it should include...how do i do this? Is it a legal document? Can i do one myself?

Also...if he is looking for this will I need to supply the MSDS sheets as well do you think? i want to be sure I cover my bases but if this goes ahead I could be doing this as soon as the 25th of the next month. i need to be sure everything is in place. If ANYBODY can help me (because I REALLY don't know) I would really appreciate it.

Hi I am IOSH trained and can do risk assessments if you want any help you can pm me anytime, basically it's an assessment of any risks to the environment or persons ie risk electrical appliances, prevention may be to have them pat tested and visually check cables ect for any
defects, hope that makes sense
, basically it's a risk =harm

Hiya - I got your PM and will reply in more detail but in case anyone else is searching a bit of info...

Under H&S Law, all companies must carry out a risk assessment - HOWEVER, you only need to actually write it down if you have more than 5 employees (same with health & safety policy), so if you are solo, you don't actually need a written RA or health and safety policy.

Some companies you work for may insist on a RA from every contractor they employ though (we do for exhibitions, even if they are a sole trader), also I think it's good practice to have one.

The HSE has some guidance on writing them, but I'll PM you a bit more info. Risk management: Five steps to risk assessment

Thanks for that.

As I say its just because i've never done one before so I though *** best to ask where to start. Going to try and do what I can but if its ok I will PM yourselves afterwards. Thanks so much for offering to help though, it is most appreciated.
