I’m a spray tan therapist, looking to expand on my skills. I am seriously thinking of doing either Shellac or Gelish nails. I’m looking advise on what brand is best?

If anyone can give me their opinion, I would be very grateful.

Also, of any traning courses in either South East London or North West Kent.]

Thanks
Kerrie

Before you do either you will need to do a basic manicure certificate.

Both systems have their pro's and con's and of course fans. I choose Shellac for several reasons:

1) Brand leader
2) It is a unique product not a gel polish
3) Amazing range of 44 colours
4) Works wonders
5) You don't need to file the nail plate at all!
6) It's not tested on Animals
7) People know and ask for Shellac by name, why offer something that is like or similar to it?
8) It's amazing!

Hi, Nail Harmony have a training centre in Crayford on the High Street.... :) I lurve Gelish...

Hiya i did Gelish - nail harmony course last week and love it and so does everyone ive tried it on. For me doing weddings i wanted a wide range of colours to offer both brides and regular clients, Gelish have over 130 colours!!!! theres something for everyone, personaly for me i prefer it on the nails to as ive had both my self before, but then everyones different!xxx

Shellac and Gelish can't be compared. Shellac is a polish only product and Gelish is a gel product. The two are very different.

I think you need to ask yourself exactly what it is you want and expect from the the product? With Shellac, I love that
a. there is absolutely no need to buff the natural nail.
b. there is no gel in it and I am allergic to gel as are many therapists.
c. it is removed in ten minutes (it really is )
d. it wears like a gel by adding good strength to the natural nail.

It is an amazing product. I am not saying that gel products are not great products by asking whether you should go with Shellac or Gelish is like asking if you should take on OPI nail Laquer or Biosculpture. They are very different.

As Fozzyo said, you would need to undertake a recognized manicure pedicure course first in order to purchase Shellac.

It doesn't add "good strength" to nails that are already weak though or weakened from years of wearing enhancements. Just wanted to point that out as the shellac marketing material is quite misleading and lots of us have discovered (after investing) that its not as strong as we imagined and some of us have to use a soak off gel underneath for added strength. Don't get me wrong I love shellac for the right person but it doesn't suit everyone. Just thought you should be aware so you can weigh up the pros and cons of both.

Thank you for highlighting this. By strength I did mean 'adding strength to nails already in good condition' but thank you for clarifying.

With traditional polish, I can't wear my nails very long but I am now able to wear them longer due to the strength the Shellac adds.

Despite the hype, shellac still contains acrylates and is more gel, than polish.
Ordinary polish does not contain acrylates.
