A few clients lately have been coming in from other Salons to have their shellac removed , our shellac products are not removing whatever is on the nails .... it's taking a lot longer to do ;it's like a gel overlay or a film of gel on the nails , apart from filling it off ,it remains on the nails .... one therapist has said it may be protein bond ? Any help would be greatly appreciated

It's impossible to know, some NNS use coloured hard gel and pass it off as Gel Polish, all brands remove differently. Many techs won't remove other techs work specifically because of this reason

Thank you for your help

Protein bond doesn't effect removal at all so it sounds like they are using a hard gel underlay or similar.

It's difficult when you are put on the spot with a client when they have been elsewhere for their nails. Even if they think they know the brand, it might not be.
I've become more savy at asking what they have got on when I book their appointment now and I warn them that I charge an extra £10 if it is a difficult / lengthy removal.

I make sure I know what brands the other salons around me are using so that if at least they can tell me where they had them done, I've a fighting chance with correct removal.
The worst ones are when they come in and say they don't know what brand they have got on their nails "but my neighbour's daughter wanted to have a go" !!!!! (as if that makes it all right.........)

Many thanks for your help ;it is a very annoying one indeed

After learning the hard way ie trying to remove supposed shellac from a clients nails and taking well in excess of 40 mins I no longer remove gel polish if not done by myself. Too much hassle in my opinion

I think having a client from another salon is a wonderful opportunity to show why you are potentially better than them. :)
I quite enjoy getting clients from NSS salons, or DIYers as it gives me a chance to raise awareness and educate my clients.
For removal I charge a fixed rate per 20 minutes taken, so it doesn't really matter how long it takes, I still earn my hourly rate.

I’ve had this happen before and it turned out after I had a snoop myself at one so called “shellac” salon, it was actually bluesky that she was passing off as shellac! I was so shocked, especially when the owner was my old college tutor and I wouldn’t of expected that from her. But it answered my question on the removal problems!
