hi I'm new to salon Geek. have been trying out my new CND shellac Romantique this week. Finding it a bit 'gloopy' and tricky to get right. Needed at least 3 coats. Any tips for a beginner gel painter?

A good tapping of the bottle for 30 seconds turning it over every few seconds will mix the shellac the way it should be and that will sort out the gloopy texture.
If I remember correctly romantique is a semi sheer colour which explains why ud do three coats for an opaque coverage.

Just to add... Gloopy usually indicates it hasn't been capped properly (or left opened for a time). Shellac contains solvents that will evaporate. The more solvents evaporate, the thicker it can get and the more "out of balance" it can become.

I agree with the other replies. When it comes to get polish/shellac it needs a really good shaking before use, pigments sink to the bottom almost causing it to separate particles. When it comes down to using gel color for the first thing is to treat it a lot like regular gel - the way you maneuver it, brushing it on just like nail polish doesn't completely work for shellac/gel color. I suggest picking up a darker color, like the other replies had mentioned it could be an 'off' or evaporated bottle. Compare the texture to your bottle of romantique, but just to let you know romantique is purposely really pale and sheer it is usually used layered or mixed with other colors, check out the cnd shellac website and watch some instructional videos. Don't get too frustrated with it just like regular gel/ acrylic shellac/gel color takes patience and practice. Play around with different brands as well OPI gel color are my personal favorites. 😀

Thank you ladies. Really helpful. I can really only use it over other colours, so long as I remember to do that for clients!
