Slight grey tones - will a toner still work?

If the client has a slight grey/silver tone to their bleached hair, will golden toners work or would you need to cleanse it first?

Yellow is opposite purple on the colour wheel so yes, a gold toner should work just fine. Obviously, you need to work out how far the purple/silver tones are past neutral to work out how much gold to use so that it doesn’t end up too yellow.
