I've done two sets of nails this week and they've been worse not better not sure why but it's really frustrating? Both clients had tiny nail beds. Does anyone else find that makes it more difficult for filing etc? Both sets have been bumpy and I thought I'd moved past this stage? Can anyone advise?

Also would u suggest sculpting is best just for doing long nails? As i struggle to create a short nail extension that way and find tips better for that?

What do you mean bumpy? Do you have a picture of the nails?

It's trickier on smaller nail beds but I don't think this should effect them being bumpy.....maybe I'm picking you up wrong?

Have you just started doing gels recently?

One set was gel the other acrylic. But both small nail beds and turned out crap. I've been qualified for about 3 months in gel and 1 month in acrylic but turned out better sets before :-(

Don't know how to get pics on here.

My motto is you can fix anything with a file...no matter how bumpy your gel or acrylic turns out once you find your way of filing you won't have any problems.

It takes time, don't be so hard on yourself just yet...rome wasn't built in a day lol.

Practice practice practice is the only way. You should grab one of those practice hands and do a few nails every time you have free time.

I have a practice hand but it's crap, the blooming fingers keep falling off and the tips come out when I'm working on it. It's frustrating. It is a cheap version I've bought but I can't afford anything else at the moment. Thanks for your advice. I think I have been more focussed on how long I'm taking than the quality of the nails which is why they didn't pan out how I'd have liked x

Let time be the last thing on your mind till you find your way....id rather sit for 2 hours and have a flush smooth set of gels than finish in an hour and have bumpy ones. Just explain to tour clients that you a learning and they won't mind the extra time.

I have a friend who done her gel nail training nearly 2 years ago and she is still learning lol....her instraustor was total crap and I've had to show her some tips just lately....ive said to her she can come in and watch me in the salon to watch the steps I do. I feel like after your training you should have the option to go back a few weeks later to see how you are getting on.

Hope everything works out for you x

Thing is I take about 3 hours for the gel and acrylic extensions! And I'm starting at a hair salon next week! They know I'm newly qualified tho but even so it means less clients to book in.

Thank you for all your help x

Everyone has bad days so don't beat yourself up.
I found short nails and small nail plates difficult initially and short nails don't look as elegant as longer ones.

I don't work with gel but I know acrylic takes a while to master. I've been qualified 2 years now and do back to back acrylic appointments and still get frustrated with the quality.

The fact you can see that you can do better is a good thing! The more sets you do the better they will be. It's all practice

Thank you Ciderella glad to hear it's not just me xx
