Hi ya all, Im new to the forum

I just come back to beauty after 13 years after being made redundant from my employer (not beauty related industry though)

Wow things have changed since I went to college! ... planning to do a few refresher training courses over the coming weeks

I did a spray tan course with glotanz and bought a maximist pro machine from suntana. I recieved 3 small bottles of 250ml solution.

I decided I want to do at least 10 freebies before i start charging clients

My first client requested the 10% cherry which smell was amazing but i felt there were areas where it was quite spurty patches. I also used approx 100ml? is this normal?

My second client requested 8%, i couldnt really see which areas i had sprayed in some bits (again used about just over 100ml -(larger lady)

Am I using too much tan? where could i be going wrong with this? is it me or the tanning solution?

Im going to buy another type of solution to try I was looking at Sunjunkie, Siena x, fakebake and laurens way.

Which is best? im looking for one that makes it easy to see on the body that i have covered all areas if that makes sense

advice good or bad very much appreciated x

Hiya, I trained with sienna x almost a year ago, I used their solutions up until a few months ago, I've since tried omg, sunless solutions and recently started to use nouvatan.

In my opinion the one with the best Guide colour is sienna x although nouvatan is pretty good too! Omg was very light but developed quite quickly so you be able to spot any patches by the time you start drying off and sunless solutions was in between the two id say!

When I first started I was using 100ml per person now I use between 40-60ml, depending on the client and my gun set up etc. I also found I used more solution when using omg, I put this down to the guide colour being very light!

Just keep practising and maybe order some samples of different brands see how you get on xxx

Hi! When i first started i was using at least 60 ml per tan, but have got it down to approx 35-50 depending on client size. I use HVLP 5008 so i'm not sure how our machines compare but it might be worth looking at your gun & maybe try turning it down a shade to reduce overspray? Good luck x

I find that the guide colour of Aviva is so light when i turn my gun spray right down that I have to follow the skin moving from the air rather than the colour! I always use about 50ml and use Aviva recommended 2 coat method ;)

You should aim to use approx 40-50ml per tan, however if you have just started then it is not unusual for you to be using more. I would suggest you have a play around with your gun settings, maybe turn it down. Try spraying slightly faster. Remember the guide colour is just a guide, you do not need to keep spraying on loads of solution to reach a good colour.

I would recommend LA Tanning as it has a double dip guide colour (twice as dark as other guide colours). I really like LA and stock it along with Nouvatan. I also stock a small amount of Laurens Way. All are great for different reasons. Before you spend money on lots of solution contact different companies and request a sample. Some have a small charge but usually knock it off your 1st order.

There are loads of threads on gun settings (think you may have the Helia Gun), technique and samples. If you use the search function you will find a treasure trove of info. Good luck x

Thankyou all for your advise!

My first client text me to say it turned out well so thats a relief! but now i just need to work on using less solution.

Im starting to think it may be my gun but sometimes i think its just air coming out so i do the area again with solution... maybe thats where im going wrong! i have attached a pic of my gun below.
Has anyone else found this with their gun?

I guess its like anything practice makes perfect!

You have the 'posh' version of the gun in this video kindly posted by Nouvatan Steve. It really is sensitive so the slightest of turns can make a huge difference to the amount of tan coming out and every brand and % of tan will have a slightly different setting! I have the standard gun and love it but it does take a while to feel confident that you are setting it correctly.

You need to be using the couch roll test to test the flow ow tan from your gun. Get some couch roll or kitchen roll etc hold it at back of your tent. Spray your tan through your gun and then test by spraying couch/kitchen roll at your usual steady speed approx hand width away. If you have got your gun set correctly you will see a nice guide colour on front of roll but it will not have soaked through to the back. If it has soaked through you need to turn gun down, if you can't see guide colour then turn it up.

You def do not need to be going back over and over (unless it is obvious you have missed a bit completely!) You are just wasting solution and overloading the skin which sould lead to poor tan with poor fading. It should just feel like air when coming out def not wet.

It really is practice makes perfect. It does get easier I promise! Remember Geeks are here to help :p

Hi everyone
not been here for a while, looking to bring spay tan into salon, we already do St Tropez manual but seems clients like the quickness of spray, I'm stuck as too what range to choose, there are so many ranges out there, any advice on what to look for and what to avoid would be appreciated.

Sunjunkie is a lovely solution, also the company is one of the nicest I have dealt with.

Also Vani T is lovely too xxx
