Hi Geeks... I know I have done a few posts about spray tan kits but I am still so undecided.
I have done spray tanning as part of my VCTC Beauty therapy qualification which I have almost completed rather than a stand alone course in it.
Once qualified I want to set up a mobile business initially but should an opportunity arise to rent a room in a good location I would consider that route. The treatments which I would like to focus on offering will be Makeup (as I have a makeup qualification), manicures and pedicures, gel polish, threading and tinting and possibly facials (although I don't expect much uptake on those as I think people prefer to go to spas for facials).

Anyway, the thing I am undecided over is whether to invest in a spray tan kit and offer spray tans. Where I live there do seem to be a lot of people with offers like two tans for £15 and another thing putting me off is the mess aspect if operating on a mobile basis without an extractor fan.

If I don't offer spray tans would I be missing out on a big market? I had the idea of trying to go into local schools/colleges tutorials to educate on skin cancer (I have a teaching qualification) and use it as a way of promoting packages which include tans for proms etc..

Spray tanning is very popular mobile, a lot of my clients hate the idea of stripping off in a salon, but have no problems doing so in their own home!

It is annoying trying to compete with the bargain tan gang, but once clients see that you offer a great tan, which lasts well and looks good, they will keep coming back to you!

Dont be tempted to lower your prices or do stupid offers, believe me, a lot of clients are instantly put off by a cheap price, as it usually means cheap quality! Yes there are those that will happily pay pittance for a hurridly applied tan which looks and lasts dreadfully... but their not the kind of clients we want anyway!

Contact local dance schools, I am the recommended tanner for one of my local schools and I get A LOT of repeat business through them, and all I do in return is have a "recommended by ..." and their phone number on my website/flyers etc!

Spray tanning isnt as messy as you night think, make sure you keep your gloves on until everything is packed away, always protect clients floors (a cheap shower curtain works wonders!) and invest in a small funnel to make pouring solution back into the bottles easy and mess free.

:)

Thanks for your reply! A shower curtain is an excellent idea! I should have though of that one as I use one for my kids when they are doing any messy activities inside lol.

And you are right.... if I were getting a spray tan myself I would go for a mid price range provider...I would be put off by someone offering it really cheaply. :)

I completely agree. I do mobile tanning and it's never been a problem. All you have to carry it your tent and machine, all the rest can fit in a carry case. My advice would be to go for it. It's less hassle than you think. Xxx

which gun and tan do you guys use? xx

I have the ts50, got the starter kit from LA tan. I've sampled solo many tans I've lost count, but I keep coming back to LA tan and suntana x
