Hello ☺️

I'm looking at offering spray tans from home but am having trouble deciding where abouts to do them. I have a study that could be used, but it has no external windows so it's quite dark. I'm also worried about the overspray as it is carpeted.

Another option is a sectioned off courtyard area in my garden. It's very private but not undercover. Do you think this is appropriate?

If so I was thinking of doing most tans out here, and moving them into the study or garage when the weather is too hot/cold/rainy.

I can't do them in the garage all the time as my partner likes to mess around in there with tools and whatnot!

Any advice is appreciated!!

Just my opinion....I don't think outside is very professional plus you'd have to contend with the weather. Smallest amount of breeze will take the spray to where it shouldn't be. Realistically it's only a small amount of days in the year where the weather would be nice enough to do it so I think you need to look for somewhere more suitable on a permanent basis.

Do you use the study? No window is not ideal but if you have an extractor and a daylight lamp for the tent you could make it work

We've only just moved to this house so we don't have any furniture in the study yet ☺️
I'm just worried about the overspray.. There's also a kind of windowless gap at the top of the wall that allows airflow to the main living room so I'm worried it would travel into there also...
I thought the garage might be ok, there's a roller door leading to the garden which I could shield with a folding privacy shield thingy (total mind blank on the name!!) so I could open the door and still allow light in

I do spray tanning mobile and use dust sheets like decorators use to cover carpets or nearby fabric furniture. I've been lucky so far that clients have an out house or a room with laminate flooring. Maybe putting down a dust sheet in the study will protect the carpet? Just use masking tap to hold it down if u r worried about slips or trips. The outside area doesn't sound good sorry.

As for the garage you could use screens to create a private area for you and your clients to use for tanning. Obviously still don't half your other half wandering in n out at the time of appointments but at least it will keep one area separate for you? Just a suggestion

Thank you for sharing Julie-Liz :)

It seems the outside area is a no go, which is kind of what I expected.
I'm having discussions with my other half about the overspray. Is it really, really bad?

I have a few guest bedrooms that could be used although they are at the back of the house and I don't like the idea of clients walking through the entire house.. They are also carpeted but those sheets sound like a good idea. What about the walls though, do they get heavily affected?

I'm not keen on spending too much time and money to set up an area just yet, I often have what I think are great business ideas that never seem to go anywhere!

It's not horrific, if you use an extractor fan on the back of the tent you will find most of it gets collected in there. I cover things in other people's houses as a precaution, I have used it in my own house with no dust sheets and no extractor, the kids were in bed n it gets noisy, and it left a light film on a nearby table that wiped straight off, not that it was noticeable. It would probably soak into fabric and stain. If you have painted walls you can give them a wipe down after but u be surprised how much is contained in the tent and is picked up by the extractor. It's only really the floor by the entrance to your tent that could get a coating, hence using a dust sheet. Hope this helps.

It really does help, thank you!

I have had my heart set on spray tanning as a new hobbie, but I'm so worried about this overspray as my hubby won't be happy lol !

I think I will build on your sheet idea and possibly use a cheap rug to cover the carpet or just a shower curtain, I've read other threads with people using these effectively.

I spray in my conservatory and haven't come across any over spray, not if I would fancy having a spray tan outside

Is your conservatory tiled/furnished? x
