Another question for you geeks...

Although i will actually probably call them and ask but i thought i'd see what you all think....

I have seen in a few chemists, not near me,that they stock clarins(with actual display stand etc)but with no clarins beauty assistant and being a big clarins fan and knowing you have to go right into town i was wondering about doing the same.....

only clarins sent me a letter saying you need 2 beauty therapists and two beauty rooms etc etc....now i can sell,i worked for clinique for 3 years so thats not a worry......

Any ideas how these chemists do it???reply to post please or pm???

Also clarins want £5,000 minimum order....

I really want a well knowen premimum brand in my salon with lots of point of sale material....any ideas???

I am not meaning to offend but to be honest Lou, I think the fact that Clarins is so widely available, I have seen it in cut priced chemists and supermarkets, devalues it - it is no longer a professionally exclusive range. There is already so much competition these days from websites and Ebay, that you dont need your clients finding the products you sell in their local supermarket cheaper. I believe that they are selling overstocks and short codes but it doesnt look good from a clients perspective.
I would recommend you look at other Salon exclusive brands for retail. I have heard really good reports about Environ and know they do retail only deals as well as professional use why not contact a few different brands for info packs. Well know premium brands usually also come with high startup costs.

what about Anthony Braden Cosmetics, Designer Nails are now stocking the products, you would have something that the local chemist doesn't have and that isn't widely available.
The prices are really reasonable, the retail price isn't over the top and you'd get a good return for your outlay... not tried them myself but DN wouldn't stock below standard products so might be worth investigating.

Louise,

I would see what kind of deal NIMUE can give you. I dont really know the products well, but they are packaged great and as an indipendant you might not be able to compete in price as you are unable to bulk buy like the major stores.

But if you have a tight budget, which everyone does, spending £5,000 on products is such a huge outlay before you have got running. I am not telling you how to do things as you know what you are doing, but if i were in your positiin, i would get the salon up and running with clients before shelling out that kind of money.

Don't forget that you can also have specialist therapists that come in maybe once a month to offer different services that you are not qualified to do etc.

I know for example if you wanted to offer permanent cosmetics then you can speak with Karen Betts at nouveau contour and they have specialists that will come to your salon once a month to provide semi perm makeup etc.

If you wanted someone to do the semi perm lashes, i could pop down to you once a month until you took the course or something as im not far from you.

I hope that this helps ya chic.........way to go with getting your salon though.

Yeah you are right Karol.I've just done a search on Nimue, also stocked by designer nails and its sounding good. The only thing i'm scared off is stocking something no one has heard off but then again i guess it makes it more exclusive. You're definately right. Thanks for that babe.

You are right.I will definately take on a skincare but i will give it a couple of months...god i've spent so much money today alone.

Lou, hope you don't mind me calling you that, but it is easy to run away wity the purse strings as it is soooooooo easy when your mind is bursting with ideas.

What i try to do is write them all down, and then once a week or when i ha ve time to go through the ideas and research and look to see if it would be a viable option to add to the business. If i think it is, then i work out a time that i would like to be able to bring it on board and work towards this date.

I did a 12 week business course that was run at my local college, and it covered everything you could think of. But also i had my business plan sent off to cambridge university to see if it was viable or not, and they said that it was and sent me a certificate to validate it etc. So things like that can be good for when you might need to go to the bank for finance etc.

Just take your time in bringing things on board, and keep a leash on your stock levels and spending. Even though it's only you, always do a regular stock take etc. Work out over your appointment books which treatments are you dping the most of and identify why. This can really help you as it helps you to understand your client market and what kind of clients come to you and what treatments they favor.

Hth......

The reason I took on Nimue was ...

No one else in my area had it so it was exclusive - so many salons use Dermalogica in my area, for example, so why would someone come to me as a new salon if I did the same as everyone else?

The packaging is really classy - designed by Saatchi and Saatchi - and the retail prices are mid range.

In salon training and a dedicated sales consultant who will come in salon to help you focus your business and increase profits.

IT WORKS!!! I have complete faith that it gives results for hypermigmented (just had fab results with my first client with facials and homecare), Problematic and Environmentally Damaged classifications. I've had facials with other brands and my skin has felt claggy and horrible, with Nimue it feels fresh and deep cleansed and ten years younger (hell I should take Nikki Hambleton-Jones job!!!)

BUT, unless things have changed, you need to be a qualified therapist to be able to set up an account. It is a very prescriptive range and you need the knowledge of how the products work as sometimes you need to mix and match them ie if someone has hyperpigmentation and problematic. To get maximum results (as with any professional range) you need to be able to offer salon treatments in conjunction with the homecare routine.

I think at this time Louise you'd be better to keep that money tucked away and wait until you are open a while so that you know which direction you want to go down. Have a good look around Excel and see what there is around hun, that's what I did last year. Go with a list and stick to it, I didn't stick to mine and got carried away as my mate Nikki will testify!!!!
