Hi Everyone.

Myself and a few of my clients are drag queens (sorry to anyone who doesnt agree, this isnt a flare up post) and we often have to clip our nails after performances.

Am I able to separate 2 layers of acrylic by applying clear polish in between? I wear my acrylics constantly, just not 4" long! I would like to put down a base layer of acrylic so that i do not have to file down, fill my nails after taking the extreme ones off.

Basically what I am asking is can I do the "nail guard" concept on top of a layer of acrylic rather than natural nails? I searched the forum for temporary nails, and the best I came up with is to do a nail without prep. I am thinking that clear polish on top of acrylic, then acrylic applied on top of that would be enough to take the extra extension on the enhancement

Edit to add, yes I am going to try it, this was just a way to get an opinion on how you would / have done it

When I used my sister as a Guinean pig for trying so acrylic on her, we used nail guards on her gel polish, the guards and acrylic came off the polish cleanly so I don’t see why you couldn’t do the same with a layer of acrylic underneath

Why not just use Nail Guards? I know it's an expense whereas nail polish is cheap and readily available, but I'm thinking longer term damage. It's not recommended to put acrylic over nail polish as it doesn't bond properly, that's not saying it doesn't bond to some degree because it will, but certainly not well enough to use on clients on a day-to-day basis. In your scenario I can see an issue with destablising your base overlays, if you are regularly putting them under pressure peeling off the extra length layers you're potentially going to cause lifting at the cuticle, possibly buckling or twisting them as you pull them off. At least with the proper Nail Guards they are actually designed to come off under relatively little pressure so it shouldn't cause too much problem in the longer term.

I'm assuming the double sided sticky pads readily available for stick on nails are not robust enough for the job??

Thanks everyone. Let me clarify what I was saying.

Lets say client X has enhancements all the time. For one night a week client X wants to lengthen their nails for a performance and just peel them off their regular enhancements.

I will try the nail gaurds between the enhancement and the extension.

I understand the question and my reply still stands
