Hi all I'm newly qualified just a couple of months. I'll be honest and say that I've probably been naive at best and have gone into this industry wanting to give a fantastic service but at a really competitive price point so have gone for cheaper lines like Elite99. Needless to say, 3 different brands and 2 lamps in and I'm still getting issues with clients nails not lasting (some do but way too many don't) I know that it's time to be more professional and go for one of the big brands. Problem is I'm just being bombarded by different facts etc. So what's the general consensus people do I go CND or Gelish, IDB or Cuccio?! I'm at a loss so any advice would be much appreciated TIA x

Choosing a brand is like picking shoes! What fits other people might not get along with you. Any of the brand you specified are good, professional brands, and a lot of people here use them.

I'd personally advice getting a sample of each and tryou it out on pops and yourself to get a feel for the product, once you are satisfied I'd also advice investing in the whole system, including lamp as this will affect the longevity of the product.

Don't beat yourself up! Even with the top of the line brands we can still have problems, it's how you deal with them that counts!

Don't give false expectations, don't promise any product will last x amount of time. What you might get two weeks out of I can promise you I will struggle to get one week!

Give thorough aftercare instructions and make it relavant to your clients lifestyle / work.

If a client is experiencing problems deal with it professionally.

Thanks ladies. I'm hard on myself. I understand it's still a learning curve to a certain extent and I'm lucky that my clients have been kind when there has been an issue and they have allowed me to rectify it but I just want to do the best job possible. I will follow your advice. Thanks again x

Unfortunately it's one of the easiest ways to learn the wrongs and rights- doing it wrong! I had planned out all the courses I was going to do into a two year plan after a year of research and getting my own nails done by different brands.. did my first course.. then discovered I wasn't a fan of the brand I'd chosen in gel polish and feel like I'm starting again! I've just done a gel polish course with a different brand, and have just started trialling a few colours of a few brands on myself and willing family volunteers, with the lamp that I currently have. Once I've decided on a brand, I'm hoping to sell off the other brands I have in order to help fund towards the new lamp I'll need!! Lucky you have clients already, whereas for me I'm struggling to sell myself to get experience! I've found buying different brands a bit daunting (especially money wise) but in trying to enjoy the opportunity to see for myself and have a completely in biased test of products! Xx
