Just been for a blood test to see if I have a thyroid problem.

I've been losing a lot of hair for like 12months or so. And been struggling with fatigue.

These are symptoms for B13 deficiency too. Why don't they test for both at the same time?!

Because the NHS is seriously underfunded and also very behind with modern thinking on thyroid function and treatment. Sorry it's my bugbear lol

You can request that your gp test for both but don't be surprised if you're told no. You can pay for private blood tests however and then self supplement.

Have you ever looked at the site Stop The Thyroid Madness? It's my bible :)

Had I realised they had similar symptoms I'd have asked when I saw the dr.

But it's a trained randomer who takes the blood at my GP surgery. She did say I could go back and ask my GP to test for that another time.

Nope. Never heard of it!

@pure I keep reading the Facebook and website and I don't understand. I can't process it.

Should I request a TSH test?

I struggle sometimes too, there's just so much info! Brain fog doesn't help
Yes you can go back to the gp and ask that they test your thyroid function. I would advise however, that when you phone to get your results, ask for the actual numbers as well, as what one will consider 'normal' another will say you're under active.
Good luck!

There is an excellent book available called 'could it be b12' by Sally Pacholock. Also I would recommend you always get a print out of your blood test results, just because you are in range with your b12 doesn't mean your not deficient and suffering symptoms, most doctors don't understand this! There is also an excellent Facebook page called Pernicious Anaemia/B12 Deficiency Support Group. I was diagnosed with PA 18 months ago, I thought I was dying I was that Ill! Also I would also advise anyone with symptoms of these to insist the gp tests your vitamin D levels too X

If you have an overactive thyroid your hair will be lank and thin. Also accompanied by weight loss however with an overactive you don't get tired like an under active thyroid. With an over active I was whizzing around like a whirlwind and couldn't settle nor sleep due to the body going into overdrive also with over I was shaky and talking faster and eating lots more as my metabolism was going mental.

Not sure if U.K. Have health shops but I found natural thyroid support vitamins and herbs work well and if you don't have either it helps maintain the activity. I really dislike taking "drugs" or prescription stuff if there is a herbal version.

Thyroid care in the uk is seriously lacking and very out of date. After paying privately to see a specialist I stopped taking levothyroxine and replaced it with natural desiccated thyroid and supplements years ago and have been so much better for it.

They link to it yes. And I agree it's a lot of information to take in and make sense of. I'm lucky that I saw a private dr years ago who supports STTM and he directed me so I didn't have to figure it all out myself.
His name is Dr Peatfield and I believe he is still running his private practice.

Could you send me the link too please? Thank you x
