Hi :) just looking for a bit of advise on the best toner to use, my friend has coloured hair around a base 5 (almost the same as her natural base) which i have applied a full head of bleached highlights to last week. But there is still some slight unwanted yellow and orange tones to the hair which need toning out to achieve a platinum blonde. I use wella products and normally use the colour fresh silver but am looking for something longer lasting. I was thinking of using kp 10/16 with pastel and visually developing, although I am slightly worried as I don't want the hair to turn too ashy, and was also unsure whether I could apply this to the whole head without it affecting and lightening the base colour, or would I have to weave out each of the highlights and foil again? Any help with the colour selection will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance :)

Anything over 9 is highlift so u might wanna try sticking with 9 depends how light your highlights are really. Also if theres just sections that are too yellow simply pick them out and paint on

But yeah steer clear of applying it to roots!

youir quite safe to use a base ten with pastel toner, as per wella instruction. . as it is on hair for a short period of time and the peroxide is minimal strength and the tint heavily diluted it wont affect the colour on the rest of the hair. if the ends are quite orange toning them wont make them platinum. no amount of tonight will lift orange to platinum it will just make it less brassy x

Thanks for your replies. The highlights are pretty much the same colour on the roots, midlengths and ends, its just the slight warmth throughout i want to get rid of. Thankyou very much to the both of you for your help :) x

I used 10.16 to tone highlights with pastel toner and it did affect the natural hair at the roots. So avoid root area.

Yep happened to me in training too :o xx

instead of using a toner - i would use a base 10 cool - i use shcwarzkopf so would use a 10.12 or something as thats cendre ash - it wont make the yellow/orange too ashy it will just tone it up to a natural blonde.

I would definately be careful of the root area wether your using a toner or a base 10

I would use 9/01 wella colour touch, it acts like a permanent on bleached hair. ~You dont have to leave on for the full 30 mins but just watch it, it goes on wet hair which makes t ideal for toning x x

Yep I have to agree I always use colour touch to tone or loreal equivalent diacolour every now and then :)

I decided to steer clear of the 10/16 and pastel and instead used the 9/01 colour touch. Got a fab result, lovely colour and a very happy client. Thank you everyone for your advice :) x

I agree all the way with colour touch toning, 9/01 0r 9/16 and 10/0 mixed is nice, 8/81 and 10/0 very good for neutralising yellow ust watch closely!
