Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can help me, I work in a little salon with about 5 stylist, the owner is a hairdresser and this is her only salon.

I think ATM funds are quite tight, and so the owner is cutting back and not going to the wholesalers as often.

So my problem is that when the salon has run out of a colour say for example 4/0 she goes out and buys a supermarket home dye like casting creme from l'oreal and then wants us to use it on clients who think they are getting a professional colour and being charged the same !!!!!!
I have started to bring my own professional colour tubes in for my clients as I do not believe this should be happening!

I have tried talking to my boss but she's not very approachable and jut says "they won't know"

Has anyone got any advice for me to stop this ?? So for the long post

Thank you

Emma

I saw something like this happening on a show like
Watch-Dog a few years ago.
Where a client would choose a colour off a swatch and 5mins later someone
would come back from SuperDrug/Boots with a Box Dye

Surely she realises some professional Tints are actually cheaper than Box Dyes??
EG: Affinage Tints are about £5.50 from my Wholesaler for 100ml

Can't the manager do anything?
Or tell the boss that you will let clients know what is happening
if there is no change?
What do the other stylists say?? Surely they can't be happy this is happening.

i could swear i replied to this post yesterday???

She is waaaaaaaaaaaay out of line! Biggest issue is she is setting herself up for disaster. They dont give enough technical info on the boxes, its very vague and you dont know the composition of what your using. Not only is it more expensive, its a gamble. If shes using the excuse that funds aren't there, then shes shooting herself in the foot, shes costing herself more, to gain an unoredictable result:eek:

What does she do if someone one wants hilites/lolites? Or wanted to be between a 5 or a 6? Or wanted something more complex than an ash blonde or golden brown?

It makes no sense, for the price of a box colour you could buy a tube of pro colour and get a few root regrowths out of that?

You need to make your boss understand that she is asking you to compromise your own professionalism. She clearly does not care about her own reputation or that of her salon.
It is insulting to our profession to pass these colours off as a professional service. The craft of blending bespoke colours, layering shades and designing beautiful coloured styles does not come in a prepackaged box.

I'm reading this with abject horror!
I can't believe that I've read this thread.
I can't believe that a pro hairdresser would comromise herself and her staff by doing ths.

You have every right to call her on this issue. No question!
She is compromising her clients and her staff. She is compromising herself ... she doesn't (now) qualify for any respect or loyalty ...

Explain to your clients what's happening. They deserve nothing less.
What a sad indictment.
