This is my 1st post on here and am fairly new to salon geek but i felt compelled to comment here. 1st i totally disagree that mums with young kids either dont have the cash or need to spend it elsewhere, this is a bit presumptious!!! A lot of my clients are mums with young kids (myself inc)!! Britain may be in a recession and we may not have as much spare cash but they will still get their nails done!!!, same as any single person, lol!!!

Dont give up hun, if they are so called friends offer to do their nails once FOC then charge for ur products after that and by the time u are confident to charge fully other people will have seen your work and you wont need to worry wether the so called friends will pay full price as you will have other people who will!!!

If you have the passion and drive to succeed you will hun!!!!!

Thanks for your comments .. however it still is true that the ones who spend the most money do not come from the 'young mums' sector of society.

2nd you have no idea how good or bad this poster is at doing nails so you also have no idea whether or not she would get future work from what people see. None of us can know whether her work will attract future clients.
Passion and dedication will help but she wants to give up before she's even got going!!! (see the title of the thread).

I work on a wide demographic of people, we analysed our client type and spend. Highest spending were women over 40 with older families or no children, followed by the over 50 age group. Then the over 20 without children. Age 25 to 40 with children were our lowest spending group.
Have a read of mumsnet, they are all swapping tips on how to avoid spending money on hair and beauty services!!
The original poster has already come up against her friends not wishing to spend on the services she trained for, despite their original encouragement and enthusiasm. To say that she should now give away those expensive products and hard acheived training and skills for free, is kind of endorsing the behaviour of her "friends".

The others on here have given some good advice that is worth careful thought before you decide the right course of action.
