Hi geeks,

I applied for city and guilds level 2 at college ( evening class, 30 weeks)

I have been waiting for a phone call to tell me if I have been successful.

Just received the call to say the class is full and there is a waiting list but they are putting together another class on a different day and offering it to all the applicants who are on the waiting lists. It is the same course but VRQ level2 still over 30 weeks. but when iv e looked on internet I seems the progression from this course is NVQ level 2 not a level 3? im confused and disappointed. I trained years ago but didn't qualify and want to gain my Level 2. I dont want to pay £1200 for a course and not gain an equivalent to Nvq/city and guilds level 2.

im all in a muddle...........:irked:

Can any one help/ advise me ?

from what im reading it seems the vrq 2 is took to prepare yourself before taking the nvq 2 ? is this the case ?

if so I think this may be a waste of my time and money.
I have completed the 2 year hairdressing course but didnt qualify but have worked in a salon and continue to do my friends and family. I explained at my interview I wished to improve my confidence and learn new techniques in cutting and gain a level 2 qualification.

The vrq is like an entry qualification onto the nvq course. I would wait until an nvq place is available rather then waste your money xx

Me also, a vrq 2 is not an nvq.
Apparently you would still have to do an nvq level 2 to be qualified x

Hi, I'm in a similar position to yourself. I got my level 2 nvq about 10 years ago and getting back into hairdressing only now. I have enrolled at college on a vrq level 2 course. My college no longer offer nvq hairdressing. I was under the impression vrq are replacing nvq eventually?? I would deffinately get onto the phone to your college and ask someone senior to answer your queries and confirm what is correct. Good luck x x

Ugh yeah im also very confused, my college doesnt do NVQs anymore, it automatically enrols you onto VRQ diploma, so I have level 1 on vtct, and now enrolling into C&G VRQ level 2 diploma. On some hairdressing websites it compares nvq/vrq as essentially the same thing, but then on here a lot of you say different.

And also Ive been reading around on the subject and people are saying that VRQ is mostly theory and barely any practical, yet on my course we will be in the salon from day one doing all methods of colour, cut, perm etc. Its still a total bugger because I'm going to uni next year and want to be qualified before that so I can possibly get a job to help me through.

Customer-Centric

This will give you a breif description of the difference between the VRQ and NVQ Quals

Qualification Types

This one is from City and Guilds

Basically a NVQ is a qualification that is delivered whilst you are working....VRQ in a training environment.

Hope that helps a bit x
