Hi I have a question I'm hoping someone would help. I had dyed black hair that I did in February, and I want to go blonde. I went to a hair dresser and she bleached my hair and then put a Toner on it and it came out sort of orangey. A week later I came back in and it was sort of a light brown. Another week later she put highlights in my hair and then a toner and it did lighten it up but not as light as I want it. Right now it's a caramel:honey blonde / brown with light highlights in it. I can't afford to go back to the hair salon again. I was wondering if I pick up a light blonde hair dye from the drug store or beauty supply store, if it will lighten it to the blonde I want? Please help! Thanks.

Hiya,
It will probably undo all that your hairdresser has done and I'd imagine you'll have patchy, damaged, canary yellow hair.
Seen some disasters.
I'm a fully qualified hairdresser and would never attempt to lighten my own, even with the right products.
You should save up and go back to the salon, if you do it yourself it would need correcting anyway.
I'd just tell them you want to get as light as possible, sounds like its pretty close x

Oh okay thank you so much!

Black to blonde won't happen in one sitting. Be patient.

The hairdresser should have explained the financial implications of going blonde from black it'll take quite a few sittings to get where you want to be & there's regular maintenance! You could try a local college salon their way cheaper than regular salons and are always greatful of clients for colour correction, their always supervised by the tutors too so there's no need to worry about anything going wrong, if you can't keep up blonde due to finances tho maybe you'd be better asking the college to take you to a shade close to your natural colour, I really wouldn't attempt to colour it yourself tho it will definatley end up costing you more in the long run, box colours never give you what's on the actual box, there is a science to colouring hair
