Hi all
I completed my nvq 1 & 2 in hair4dressing almost 8 years ago. I worked in a salon for a couple of years and also did mobile, but never really made a full time job out of it. I now would love to complete level 3 and build my business back up to full time, but I cant seem to find ANYWHERE to train around my current job (childminder ).
All the local colleges to me (havering) seem to only offer the adult courses during the day?? And insist on you working in a salon, Which I would love as I need to keep up to date, but I wouldn't know where to start in asking a salon to take on a 28 yr old as an apprentice??
Really hope someone can help as I really want to get back into it again
Any info would be really appreciated
thanks in advance :)

Hiya,

I've today received a prospectus from the college where I originally trained 20 years ago, for NVQ3 and have found the same problem as I work mobile 5-6 days per week, can't afford the time off work. Wat area are you? I'm keeping my eyes peeled, and will be calling the college tomorrow to see wat they can offer. Will keep you posted!

Hi, I have done a lot of beauty training in private training schools and my favourite was Kent beauty academy in Ashford. They are starting their nvq level 2 and 3 and they are flexible hrs. I went to college but if I was wanting to do my nvq I would definitely go there.
There number is 01233 646060 www.kentbeautyacademy.co.uk
They work in small groups and specialise in teaching mature students. A must for those wanting to study beauty rather than the college large groups.
Very friendly place.

Just seen you're in Rainham, it's Havering Tech I've got the prospectus for, have you tried there yet? There is a couple of academies in Chelmsford but they don't have any dates for nvq3 yet.

Hi yes i looked into that one but they dont seem to offer flexible learning for adults and i think it was those who only offered the daytime courses and you needed to be in a salon, being a childminder theres no way I can take days off to train, i dont think the parents would appreciate that....it's such a pain just can't seem to find anywhere :irked:
