I did a gel polish Mani on a new client today, i started by sanitizing both our hands and carried out the treatment. As I got near the end and was putting on the top coat I noticed the skin around 1 nail was raised at the cuticle, i asked the client if she hurt her finger and she said "oh that's a wart I have it ages and it won't go".... it didnt look like a wart, I didn't react but in my head I was thinking what touched it and are my products contaminated. I don't have an autoclave but if I soak all my metal implements in barbicide will that be ok? I made sure to throw out the file and buffer . How do I bring up the problem with warts if this client books again?

I wash and then sterilise my equipment with Milton sterilising tablets after each client. I use barbicide on the table but I don’t think this kills all viruses. Warts are only on skin so your polishes shouldn’t be contaminated unless they can’t into physical contact with the wart. You’ve thrown your files and buffers so that’s fine. Next time I would wear gloves and I would cover the wart with a plaster while you carry out the service. I personally wouldn’t do cuticle work near it, always throw your files and buffers. Just explain to her what your doing as they are contagious it needs to be covered. When I do my consultation before a service I always ask if there’s anything on their hands like that first so I don’t get any nasty surprises x
