Hey guys just wanting some help with a client that has come to me through a friend, she has just moved to my area and is wanting me to do her hair for her in 6 weeks time as she has just had her roots done before she moved (..So at the moment not entirely sure what her natural base is..)
She brought the information on the colours her previous hairdresser has used and says that every time she has it done, her roots are coloured with Koleston 12/16, and then toned with 12/11. I've never used Wella colours before so wondered if anybody could shed some light on why this was? I am presuming that her hair lifts to quite a yellowy colour and that is why the ash is used but wondered if anybody else had any ideas or if you think I should just stick to what her previous hairdresser has done? Thanks :) xx

These are both high lift tints in wella, I'm struggling to see why she would use 12/16 and then tone with 12/11 if it does lift out yellow the /11 won't help it at all as it blue ash which will go green hmm and as for toning with a high lift :0 can you not convert her to your colour range ? X

Have to say I'm confused as to why a highlift was used to tone also :o I'd agree with blue just tell her you can match it up to the equivalent in your colour Hun, well I would :) xx

God I'm so glad it's not just me!! I thought it was weird but then thought maybe it was a Wella trick I wasn't aware of?! lol. Thanks guys that's really helped as I was so confused! I use Swartzkopf so think I will take a strand test from her when there is some re-growth and test it with that instead! Only thing is she said she wanted to stay with those colours as "other colours have gone yellow in the past"..So will have to do some convincing! X :) Thanks!

Don't tell her lol until you've done it and it's look fab! :) x

I'm also not sure why she'd tone a highlift with a highlift?

I use shcwarzkopf too and use their 9's and 10's as toners as well as their 9 1/2 range? If her highlifts go yellow why not bleach them with low level developer and tone if needed? Depending on what she's looking for and what's on her hair at the moment if u choose your bleach and developer carefully you might not even need to tone? :D

Yeah I use the 9 range to tone more than anything, if anything! I have explained to her that I'd like to take a strand test and she's fine with that so will do that in a few weeks when we've got some regrowth! I couldn't get my head around it thought I was being stupid! Glad you all agree!! X

Me too! They discontinue and bring out new things all the time its confusing!! They say that 10 series deposit more tone although they aren't very exciting! They have a beautiful 91/2-19 toner to reduce warmth!! Let us know how u get on with strand test when you do it! :D

I will do :) thanks guyssss! Xx
