Hey all,

I'm hoping I can pick your brains as I'm a little stumped!

I have a a natural base of a fairly average level 7, not ashy yet not warm either, & previously bleached mid-lengths & ends. I'm wanting a nice white/silver/ash blonde, no yellow!

Last time I did my roots I used 12/81 with 12% for 50 mins, & ended up with a yellowy root glow. I put it down to maybe not leaving it on long enough, or the tone just not being right.

Yesturday I used Wellas 12/96 with 12%, I left it for the full 60 mins, & put it through the mid-lengths & ends for the last 10 just to tone, & I'm pretty disapointed with the results!

The mid-lengths & ends are lovely & ashy, but my roots are strawberry blonde! A more orangey tone than last time with the 12/81, which is surprising, as it's a cendre violet tone?!
It's not a great look! lol. It's such a shame, as the tone through the rest is lovely!!

I was braced for a potential purple rinse-like outcome, of which I wouldnt have minded!

The only thing I can think may be effecting this, is that I didn't use Wella's own peroxide? I thought I'd ask around if it can make *this* much of a difference before I go & buy it & do it again with the same results!!

To make matters more irrateing I have natural dreadlocks...which makes the rinsing process something like chinese water torture!! lol
This is why I'v now stopped bleaching, as the 'gritty' bits of the bleach powder will get stuck inside my dreads, & the relentless toning afterwards just isnt really do-able!

Hi there,

Not sure if this will help you or not, I use 12/96 on a couple of clients, 1 in particular is a base 7 with a fair amount of red, I find when it's first done it does tend to look very warm at the roots, but after a few days those tones fade out. Failing that have you tried 12/89? Contains mauve ash so should knock the orange tones out a bit more.

Could you not mix 0/81 in with it?

I use 12/89 9% and a sprinkle of bleach powder on a base 7. 45 mins and it's fine. The bleach will lift it a little more, which in my experience helps with the root glow.

I used to have white/violet blonde hair and I'm a natural 7 but used to bleach them with 6% and the use 12/81 with wella pastel peroxide mixed 1:2 and put tht on for 10 mins or sumtimees 15 if I wnted it reallly ashy violet! It used to work a treat! And the somtime I used to use colour fresh and that use to give the nice colour to!

But I also did the granny blue rince I loved it! Haha I use to get the fancy full 1 from sallys in silver and it was realllly blue so used to water it down a wee bit! Ohh how I miss my blonde hair! Hehe

Yes try the above 1/2 method

Most highlifts tend to go brassy unless you have a light base naturally. Unfortunately the best result you'll get is prelightening your hair and toning it
