I went Thursday and got "gel" nails... Their definition is colored acrylic with a gel top coat... Which I am fine with because I am rough on my hands and it doesn't chip and it always looks so good. I have been going to this nail salon for years BUT it has been maybe a year since I have had a set put on... My girl is no longer there so they put me with someone else and when I got home I was so disappointed.. I wanted funky colored natural looking nails. I feel like they look globby and thick. I waited a few days for them to settle and then just decided I needed to call to get them fixed. I am going this evening but I wanted to post here first and see if I can get some advice. I feel like they are too thick and too wide. I tried filing the sides some but then just wasnt comfortable so I stopped. Any input will be greatly appreciated. I just feel like my hands look stubby and ugly now. Also... Do you think once they grow out some they won't look as stubby? I just need to know what ill make this look better. I work in a chiropractic office and I don't want to look like I have a nail job that I would have gotten when I was young and didn't know any better which is what this kind of reminds me of.

I personally think they are the wrong shape for your hands.
I would suggest you go back and explain what you don't like about them and have them sorted.

Is there a shape you think would be better? When I file my natural nails I round it more. Would it be too much to ask for them to reshape them? And I also feel like I need to do my cuticles before I go because they weren't touched.

There too wide on the ends and the little one especially looks lumpy. From the side view they look look too flat. I don't think they've been done well at all to be honest especially if they didn't do your cuticles. I would go back, get them removed and take your money else where.

You can still have square if you wish,or squoval. But they need tapering in slightly rathe than being more toward 'duck feet' shape.

The other girl always did such a good job. and they are the best place around which blows my mind. If you mention cuticles you have to pay more and then they quoted a girl a price right in front of me for the same thing I got and then charged me $5 more for no reason.. And I still tipped because I always do... My husband and kids were waiting at home so I just went home and then bawled my eyes out. I have been so many places and there are so many pop up shops around here and they have been the only quality ones.. I don't know where to even go anymore. And they weren't even nice. She said maybe two words to me and they speak perfectly good English she just wasn't into me I don't guess.. I am so stumped and out my Christmas money now.

Also does it matter that I have flat nails when you mention the flatness of them or should they have built that to make it more round and natural? I do have flat nails and I thought it was my hands/nails that was always the problem. They used to pop off all the time in the past then when I started going there I liked the way they were done but now I am going back to blaming it on my hands... I mean I have seen people with awful hands/nails have beautiful work done so why can't I find that

This is absolutely not your fault. I notice this is a bit of an older post. Would you mind updating us of the situation? Acrylic nails are considered an "enhancement" for a reason. It is not because you have flat nails to begin with. They should have built up an arch on the top of the nail as well as tapered the sides in to give the appearance of natural, elegant looking nails. This new girl you had gone to either a) doesn't give a hoot about her work, or b) is new and no one has corrected her.
