Ok this is not a technical question.
I did a consultation for new client last week for a colour and she was lovely but with 4 kids running around it's hard:-/ I established that she has a permanent tint. She didn't know what she wanted and in the end just asked cud I do something like what was in it already. I agreed and she booked me for next week.
Now I know I'm a bit shaky on the confidence front but hav been getting on really well lately:)
Thing is....this is wrecking my head all weekend! I don't know exactly why. I think it's just cause I don't know what I'm putting colour on top of. Hair v faded and bit brassy with highlights that have been coloured over. She is a stunningly beautiful woman and I really want to do a good job but doubting all the time.
Thinking of just getting in touch and explaining that having time to think about her colour, that I don't feel confident to take her on at present.
One day I'm super capable and the next I'm a withering mess:/ would it be wrong of me to cancel after agreeing to take it on? Hate appearing to be unprofessional.
What does anyone think ??
Btw. Be lost with this site and u guys, thanks a mil x

this means you need hair of a few shades.
lighter and darker. and mix them.
in some cases if my customer have very weird colour - for example one had a very funny chicken korma brown
I asked her to dye her hair, so she came back later and we did new colour match.

NEVER CANCEL. YOU WILL LOOK SO UNPROFESSIONAL!

I think the op is asking for colouring advice but the reply is regarding extensions? Am I right?

yes. I was sure she was asking about colour match - hair extensions.
if not then I am sorry

Sorry for not being clear:rolleyes:
Its about colour but I'm not asking for colour advice.
I'm wondering what do you do when your a nervous wreck about doing a colour and you haven't had a proper consultation and bit afraid about using tint on old tint and bleach and you really want to do a fab job but not sure if you can??
Is it not better to be honest with the client than to go ahead dithering?
Which is more unprofessional?

Wah :Scared: colour wrecks my head, I love cutting and blowdrying. Think I can do anything in that area...just bl***y headwrecking colour :!:

The consultation is soooo important. I have a mental checklist of what to go through and then repeat it all back to them, then if there is a difference between the colour/style in my head and theirs it can be picked up sooner rather than later. It may be helpful to you to have a list of what you need to find out written out in front of you that you can tick off as you go.

If i were you, i would call her and ask if you could go back and go through another consultation as you want to ensure she ends up with a good result. Have you done a sensitivity test? Did you take some of her hair to do a strand test? If not, you can do these at the new consultation. Make sure you have your colour chart and hair books/mags and ask her if she has seen any colours in mags, on celebs, etc. so she can point out what colour she would like to end up with as it sounds like there might have been too much going on first time round. (I always point out that they won't necessarily look like Amanda Holden/lady ga ga/whoever buts it's just too see what colour/style they envisage).

Then you can take the test cutting of hair and work out what you need to do to get the colour she wants. If it's a big job, don't be afraid of having a plan of what needs doing in what order that you can tick off as you go either.

If you arm yourself with all the information you need and are sure of what needs to be done you will feel more confident immediately.

I am not answering as a hairdresser. I am answering as a fellow professional with a view to the problem of self-doubt.

You've got to have faith in yourself!!

I'm sure you must be competent in this area or you wouldn't have qualified.

You are letting your nerves kick in and get the better of your judgement.

I don't think you should cancel, it will make you look as if you have no idea of what you are doing ... and you DO know what you are doing don't you!!!

If you cancel you are never going to get over this brick wall you are putting up regarding this particular discipline.

What I would say that four children running around while you are doing this treatment may be a bit off-putting!

The professional advice offered to you in a previous post regarding a 2nd consultation is a good idea.

You can do it. You know you can do it.
