I have a client who is a right cow! She is horrible to my mate who is a carer and I do her hair. I always ring her up the day before or the same day and ask if she wants her hair done cause she usually cancels saying she isnt well when its a load of crap cause she is always ill when i say you want me to come. I rang last Monday at 9am and she said hello? I said hi its natasha she said what do u want as in rude and blunt, i said i rang to see if you are well enough for me to come round as i always ring to see and she said its 9am in the morning i am not up yet and all you do all the time is ring ring ring! i said its to know if you want your appoinment, if you dont I can give it to someone else. she said if you are going to be like that then i will have it next week. i said fine will see you then....... today? i didnt turn up, i dont see why i should, i dunno what to say to her, she rang me and left a voicemail and i just cant be assed with her anymore, all she does when i am there is complain about everything saying how imcompetent people are and is racist! she says dont get my watch wet as in really harshly! she cant talk to me like this! I dunno if i should ring her up and say i am not coming to you cause you are a cow or what? well not those words obviously but i need help. ring or ignore her and not have to deal with her?

Maybe next time she calls tell her your very busy and you have alot on your plate (pretty much getting at you cant deal with her anymore) and you think she should try someone else who can accomidate her better because your just to busy. Don't be rude you dont want her bashing you but she will probably wish she was a better client because now she will have to run around and find someone as good as you and that can be really hard! and you dont have to deal with her anymore!

I personally would ring the old bag up and tell her "im not prepared to do your hair anymore as I find you rude, abrupt and patronizing, which I do not have to put up with, I dont earn enough to put up with it! good luck finding another hairdresser, you cantankerous old cow! see ya!"

I think you shouldn't be rude with her. I would def avoid her as a client, but make it clear you are busy/out on holiday, whatever.
To my opinion, you should keep it professional and simple, by bashing her on the phone you prove you're no better. She won't get your point anyway, but like somebody said, she can talk badly about u afterwards.

Thanks for the replies guys! Yea I will ring her and then see her and tell her I am fully booked after a while so I don't cause any conflict with her which I shouldn't but I guess i need to be professional lol! xx

Hahaha ... what a priceless sentence!! You funny little thing lol.

OH dear, there is so much in this post that is a little bit wrong but the way you have worded just made me laugh out loud!!

Wait for her to call you my lovely and then tell her that your diary is booked solid right up to the middle of October.

If she makes an appointment for the middle of October let us know!!!

Jacqui xx

I would want to give her a piece of my mind, the cow bag. But... You have to be a pro, just leave it, and when she rings you say your busy, she'l soon get sick of asking :)

I would do her hair one last time and SOAK her watch mwahahahaha lol!

Your in a customer facing industry, at the end of the day no one is gonna be sweetness and light but you have to learn how to deal with these sort of people, yes she might be rude etc but you don't know what she has been or is going through, she might be on medication which makes her feel horrid but she has to take it. You just never know but at the end of the day she is paying you for a service that's it!! Go do your job, get the money and leave, it might only be 15 quid a week for a blow dry or whatever you charge but that £15 is better than nothing!! And you can't survive without money!

You are so right, it takes a big persin to ignore it, but on the other hand, working for yourself you can choose, its not as though she's coming into the salon and you have to do it. Some times that £15 could make all the difference, youve just got to suck it up and let it all go over your head :(

What you have to remember is that you provide a service, it's up to you who you provide it to. It's differant in a shop you have to accomodate whoever walks in. But if you are mobile, it's easy just to say my client diary is full...If I get an opening I have your number I will call you..Then you obviously don't.

How are you getting on?
Did you go back? X

Can I just add a point of view from someone who has dealt with the home side of the catankerous old cow's of the world lol

You may find that this lady is not intentionally being rude or abrupt hun. To reach a certain age and have to try to come to terms with the fact that you can no longer care for yourself independantly and have to rely on others to do basic things for you can be so, so difficult. This lady obviously wants to be able to be pampered etc but it could just be difficult for her to overcome her pride - having someone have to come to your home, take you into the bathroom to wash your hair all while you are feeling rubbish through illness nad medication must be quite humiliating at times.

Perhaps you could try to bite your lip a little longer with this lady, maybe take a little cake or something ( you cold ask her carer is she is allowed them ) and spend a little time before your work begins in making her feel like a normal and able person instead of someone who has to rely on everyone all the time.

As I say, just a flip side for you - my mother in law has vascualr dementia and often gets like this and it is 99% of the time because people treat her like she is not there, making choices for her and stuff.

Big hug for you hun xx
