Hi,

I'm looking for a good hair salon where there's someone who is trained to do hair extensions, as well as colouring, and styling. But I've never had hair extensions before. So I have some questions if anyone is willing to help me out. I just want to get it right the first time if I can, as I'm aware it's expensive.

A bit of background, I went to a salon and asked for a shoulder length cut, which I described in reasonable detail, using my hands as a visual guide.

To cut the story short (pun intended) it was cut too short so I ended up with a poor quality chin bob that doesn't suit me at all, without my say-so. I guess she forgot about hair shrinkage.

I'm still sorting that out, but that's the reason why I'm considering hair extensions because my confidence was crushed by this, it broke my heart. I have a round face with thick hair. Short styles have never looked right on me, and the stylist knew this as I was telling her this while she was colouring my hair.

My hair only grows about 1/4 inch or 1/3 inch a month if I'm lucky, so I really don't want to be stuck with this for the next several months. Hence the reason why I'm looking into having hair extensions done until my natural hair grows back to shoulder length.

  • What should I look for in a salon or hair professional i.e. qualifications to ask about, what to look out for, etc?
  • Which hair extension type will stay in for a few months and remain good quality for that time?
  • Which brand of hair extension to consider?

My hair is dyed (grey roots!!!) dark red with brighter red highlights, so will I be able to get it dyed every 4 weeks with extensions in?

Many thanks.
