What's the difference between sterilization and sanitising in beauty therapy?

Uhm, what's the difference between sterilization and sanitising in beauty therapy? I understand that sanitization is cleaning something and removing dirt and that sterilisation is a deep clean, removing the dirt we can't see. But can someone please tell me a bit more? What's their effectiveness and limitations?
