Hi All,

I have a new client that coloured her about six weeks ago, as i can only just see her roots(base 5) She has the XXL Live colour Brown, and wants to go blonder. I have taken samples of her hair to test with bleach, and i want to be kind to the hair. So my query is, would you go for 20 vol with bleach or would you go higher. I usually stick to 20 vol but i have feeling it may need more??

An thoughts are welcome, I wouldn't normally question highlights but i am seeing some re-occurring mail about the xxl live colour range.

Thanks x x

Ok so i did the strand tests and didn't get any lift with 6%. She wants to go blonder. Should i bleach bath the hair and tone or is it going to end up orangey? She is due in tomorrow.

If you still have some hair left to test id see if you can lift out the xxl colour with a bleach bath, and then dependent on the condition, highlight on top of that! But if your not getting any lift at all on bleach and 6% then i think you may struggle to shift it!

Definitely dont do anything to her hair without strand testing it first, because live colour can be really difficult to get out! xXx

Even if you can get it lifted out a bit, you might struggle to get the new colour to stay. Most times with xxl it won't hold any new colour properly so fades within a week or so :( x

Hiya,

Thankyou both for your replies, it has set my mind at rest. I explained to the client that it isn't going to lift very much but if she can bear with it eventually we will be able to start working it on it more.

I did think of highlighting over the top of bleach bath but ill check my last strand, i knew there was a reason i took enough for 3 strand tests. I haven't left her with chunk missing though.lol.

Ill let you know how it goes x x

Yes definately let us know how it goes! Last year my sister went from blonde to copper, and had quite a lot of fade! I was busy and she wouldnt wait for me to touch it up so went and used xxl live on her hair without telling me..... i was furious,it was awful and she hated it! But it was absolutely horrendous to shift and then anything i tried to put over it just went khaki. Its sorted now, but it has been a long process!

Good luck, i hope it goes well xXx

Hi,

Here's how it went. I started with a bleach bath with 6% and left it on for 15 mins. This didn't give much lift but it just made highlighting easier. I then dried the hair and sprayed it with a pre-colour treatment to even porosity. I then used bleach with 6% in foils.
I started at the front (as i am mobile, and heads face over the bath when shampooing) and watched very carefully. When colour was developed i wiped with wet cotton wool and put conditioner over to stop it developing further.
In between the foils i used Well KP 6/1 to neutralise red, gold tones. When the foils were ready i shampoo'd and toned with Wella Colour touch 9/16+9/01. I left it until gold was removed and the result was perfect. My client said it was the natural colour she had had and i was over the moon.
However i cannot stress enough, i tested the hair before hand, i looked at incompatibility, porosity and i looked at the texture of the hair. she had strong hair, on fine hair i doubt very much that i would gone ahead. x x x

Hey blondie! Loving your thread as I'm having the same dilemna.. out of interest how much did you charge her for the whole colouring process?
