balayage

Hey I have a client who currently a base 5 all over, she is wanting balayage but wants the roots a 3 darker than what she is now. What’s the best way to do this? Do the roots then the bleach to lift for balayage the same time the tint is on? Or do it all separate? Any info appreciated...
