OK so I'm a kind of new nail tech, only 2 years experience. I have a question about application I guess. So here it is:

Lately I've noticed that some techs put down a layer of clear acrylic before going into their design. So for instance, say that someone was going to marble acrylic for a design, before they would start marbling their colors they would put down a thin layer of clear, then start adding the colors they're going to marble. I hope in being clear here.

Anyway I'm curious to exactly why this is done? Is if done so that its easier to file off and then refill and change design? Is it done for extra strength? IDK, I've just noticed it and am wondering if its something that I should be doing.

Any info or help would be greatly appreciated!!

Its done so when the client returns and wants a complete change of design they can be filed off without worrying too much about hitting natural nail.

You would need to work super thin with the base layer and design layer then create the structure and strength with clear over the top, this also prevents filing through the design colours with final finishing filing.

As trinity said however some coloured powders aren't strength powders so clear is necessary.
